Will this work with Comcast xfinity system?

This DSC WS4939 sensor only can work with DSC wireless panels. For Xfinity system, you need Visonc MCT-320 sensors.

How close does it need to be to the magnet to register as closed?

Usually with a 1/2 inch or so...

Can you demand to know the "Installer Code" from your alarm company? This sensors cannot be added to your system without it

Ran into the same problem, but if you haven't tried, the manufacturer default for installer code 6321, if you are using the 4 digit, input type. Or you can try the last four digits of your account number from the support company. My bet is on the first one. Good luck with your problem.

How do you pair it with the DSC panel?

I have a DSC 1832 and enrolled this to replace a failed wireless sensor, at the keypad (which is either a PK5501 or RFK5501). You'll need to have the wireless sensor in your hand and look at the number after the "S:" (it will probably have numbers and asterisks in it). With that in hand, here's what I did to replace the old / failed sensor. Press *8 on keyboard, followed by your programmers code (default is 5555), It will ask for a Section and show "---", type 804. It will ask for for section with two dashes "--", then type the zone number of the failed sensor. It will display the ESN of there old failed number, just type exactly what you see after "S:" on the label (including asterisks), then hit pound "#" until you are out of programming mode. Worked for me. Hope it works for you!
