Makes great coffee and so easy to keep clean

Eventually turned out to be just what I wanted.
Looks and feels really nice. I like my coffee and have used several methods to make it and have thought about giving this a go for quite a while. Simple to use and after a few attempts I managed to get a decent cup of coffee out of it. The smell of coffee brewing is a real plus.

Makes good coffee
It's a complete change for me having used machines and a cafetiere (french press) over the years. I've never had a percolator like this. It's really a bit of a revelation just how good this is. It makes 3 mugs of strong coffee which sets me up for the day and I'm loving it. It's easy to use, set up and clean and takes about 15 minutes from start to finish on a low heat on my gas hob. I would recommend this to anyone who loves coffee. One last thing to add. It comes with some paper filters. I checked and to buy 100 of these is, I think, a little expensive, obviously you can judge for yourself. So I bought 10 cafetiere replacement mesh screens. 4 inch in diameter. £4. You only need one which will last for ages, does the job for fine ground coffee and is reusable. Just sayin. Anyway just get one. You won't regret it.

Very good if you really do want a percolator
ON PERCOLATING Like all percolators the strength of coffee produced depends on how long you brew it for as well as the quantity of coffee and water used. Unlike Bialetti stove top mocha/espresso pots (often mis-named stove top percolators), which force water once through the grounds by steam pressure, this pot continually recycles it to drip through the grounds from above. This requires experimentation to get right but means you get hotter coffee than that produced by other systems, because it is being continually reheated as it brews. Which is great for camping. For best results you do need a coarser grind than for most other coffee makers to avoid getting grounds in your coffee. The filters supplied by the manufacturer do solve this problem if you are careful to percolate the coffee over a low heat once it starts brewing but, if the water bubbles through too quickly, some fine grounds may bypass the filter in the bottom of the coffee basket and enter the brew through the overflow holes in the side (see photo). Although the pot is steel, as supplied it does not work properly on my my induction hob because the centre of the base, shaped to locate the internal mechanism, is raised slightly and does not quite contact the hob surface. Not a problem when camping or on other hobs, and it works perfectly with one of the adapter plates produced by Bialetti and others for using otherwise incompatible pots on induction hobs. THIS POT It feels strong without being heavyweight. Many percolators have aluminium internals but these, being stainless steel, feel less fragile and are dishwasher safe. The wooden handle works well as an insulator and, I think, looks and feels nice. Some reviewers mention the removeable glass knob breaking in use, but the instructions clearly state that you should NOT screw it in tight. Just screw it in loosely and back it off a turn before use. It will not fall out. I have put a small rubber band on mine to act as a washer to prevent over tightening. Arguably the manufacturer should do something similar, but it is not a problem if it is a little loose. Although it looks like a knob it is really a sight glass that you do not need to touch when the pot is hot, and the design means that it does not leak anyway when slightly loose. It allows you to see clearly when and at what rate the coffee is percolating, which really helps when using this kind of pot. Very much recommended if you like percolated coffee. But, as with all percolators, there will be a learning curve.

Takes a bit of experimenting to get it right but worth the effort.
So, after this arrived I tried a few times with coffee beans I ground myself and the results were not great. I went to the Colletti YouTube account and watched several videos after which my coffee improved greatly. There is definitely a learning curve that has to be gone through but it is worth the effort. Apparently, the coffee beans need to be ground coarse. I ground some very coarse and it was no good again. So I suppose it depends on what is meant by coarse and I came to the conclusion that the coffee granules had to be somewhat bigger than the fine ground powder you put in a filter machine but there should not be great big bits of coffee pieces in the grind. The other thing is how long you percolate the coffee - the video I watched said 7 - 10 minutes so I went with the 10 minutes option. They also say heat the percolator with a low to medium low heat otherwise too much bitterness is released. In the end I finally started to get really good hot coffee which is what I was aiming for in the first place. It's worth noting that they say you should not overtighten the glass top piece so I just gently turned it until it stopped and that works very well. I also bought Colletti's spare pack of two glass tops just in case 1 breaks. It was just under £10. Finally you need to put the paper filters into the pot as recommended otherwise you run the risk of gritty coffee. Anyway, as already said, if you like your coffee this is worth the initial effort of learning the finer points of how to percolate your coffee.

Tasty, Hot Coffee
This makes really hot, tasty coffee. 9 cups is a little optimistic. I find it makes 3 mugs as follows: Fill with water up to the spout holes. Fill the coffee chamber with 3 good tablespoons of your favourite coffee. Better if you grind your own, not too fine. Ready ground is usually too finely ground but you can use a paper filter if you can't handle some coffee grounds in the bottom of your cup. Assemble the insert into the pot and heat to the point where the perculating process starts and you can see the activity in the glass knob. Turn the heat down and time it for about 7 minutes. Then enjoy your hot fresh brew. I use 2 cubes of white sugar and a teaspoon of Coffeemate for a nice sweet, rich cup of coffee. Can also be used outdoors, which is a bonus if camping or on a picnic.

Cheaply made and absolutely not worth the price
The lid doesn’t sit properly, cheaply made, and unless you fill it up to at least 4 cups, it won’t start percolating. The holes inside also very big even for a coarse coffee make it necessary to have paper filter. Please find yourself a better way to waste your money.

Bereits die 2. Kanne ;-)

Coffee pot handle
I like the simplicity of using a percolator. I was using a Pyrex glass percolator that I had acquired when I bought a property years ago. Not many exist anymore as they are almost entirely glass & date from the 1950-s to early 60's. It worked great & was mesmerizing to see it in action, as the glass allowed one to view the percolating action of the bubbles forming & going up through the glass percolating tube. Unfortunately one day I heard a loud "pop" as I was making coffee & discovered that the base of the percolating tube had shattered for some reason. I bought this model to replace it. It's very well made, despite being manufactured in China; wish it was made in America! One reviewer incorrectly stated that it's made in Montana. Yes, Bozeman & Butte are towns in Montana that Coletti named their models after; but it says right on the box that it's made in China. The entire coffee pot is stainless steel; other than the replaceable glass screw in top & the two wooden parts of the handle. The percolating tube, basket, etc. is stainless; unlike some other brands that are made of aluminum or plastic. I'm a welder & master craftsman & I have large hands. When I first got this, I felt that they should have made the handle larger, because unless I used the skills honed & perfected from playing the game "Operation" as a kid, my hand would touch the top or bottom parts of the metal handle. And the two wooden scales attached to the metal handle are even with the metal edges of the handle, rather than being larger & wider than the metal. "Why did they make the handle so thin, & the handle opening so small?" I would've made it with a larger opening, & thicker handle to make it easier & safer to grasp. So the first time that I used it, I picked it up with an oven mitt, but that made it even more difficult to get my hand on the handle properly. So the next time I lightly touched the handle, including metal parts of it, to "test" the temperature of it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the entire handle portion of the coffee pot only gets warm; the wooden scales & the metal band of the handle do NOT get hot at all! So fear not; you can pick up the coffee pot without using an oven mitt or pot holder. Overall, it's decent quality & brews very well & quite fast; only takes a few minutes to brew perfect cups of coffee!

Le produit qui manquait dans l'univers café
Super! C'est le percolateur qui me manquait. A chaque fois je ne trouvais que des 50 tasses. Là je suis tombé sur ce produit par hasard, je l'ai acheté et l'utilise quasi quotidiennement.
