I need something to put in my straight hair before sponge rolling & airdrying that will increase curl hold but not make them crunchy. Will this work?

Yes!! It actually says on the bottle that it helps keep color safe. I dye my hair and use this product and I love it and it smells amazing

Does this contain silicones?

I just did a little more research on the product & unless silicones are masquerading under other ingredient names, it does not. I first found out about this product on foodbabe.com
