Perfect simplicity
I've been training competition retrievers for 20 years, but I've never used aversive methods such as an ecollar. Despite the success my dogs have had in various sports including Hunt Tests and Field Trials, in all this time I've never been able to train a completely reliable recall command ("Here!") to any of my retrievers. They come eventually, but often the delay is unsatisfactory and potentially dangerous (e.g. a car is coming and the dog is in the road) These days I hike with my dogs every day, and I just had to solve this problem. With great reluctance!, I decided to try an ecollar. First I tried two different models of less expensive (but highly rated) ecollars from Amazon. In both cases, the transmitter stopped working within a few weeks. Dog training is hard enough without flaky, unreliable equipment. So finally I bought a Dogtra 202C. I can't say enough good things about it! (I'll update this review if it lets me down later on.) Of course, first and foremost, I was able to train my dogs' recall command in fewer than five sessions. The acid test: today I took them into the garage and opened the garage door. As they have for years, they rushed out into the neighborhood. I called "Here!" and used the appropriate setting to signal each dog with the collar (one responds instantly to vibration, the other needs a nick). They came back! And then they stayed with me, as I took them for an off-leach stroll outside. Wow! Sorry to take more if your time, but some more positives about this product: * The design is so simple! No useless "features," just the features you need to train a dog. Of course, you also need to know what you're doing. I've seen so many trainers abuse their dogs thru ignorance, temper, stupidity, or actual cruelty. * There's no on/off switch for the transmitter or the collars! The transmitter is always in standby mode. You activate the collars by touching them a certain way with the transmitter. So cool! * I didn't think I'd like the buckle straps, but it turns out it is much easier and faster to put them on with the right tightness than the straps that you snap together. * You can wear the transmitter around your neck with the provided lanyard, or you can loop the lanyard thru a belt loop and put the transmitter in a pocket without fear of losing it. I consider myself a serious positive dog trainer and I've been willing to invest huge resources in training my dogs for competition without resorting to aversives (i.e. negative reinforcement, physical punishment, corrections, etc ). But I am so happy to be able to hike with my dogs off-lead, let them race around, go on adventures, get plenty of high-energy exercise ... and yet call them to me when I need to. I hope you have equally good results and many happy experiences with your dogs.

Off Leash Control
So far the collar works very well. I like that both the receiver and transmitter are waterproof as my newfie mix loves to swim. I appreciate the strap that came with the transmitter. I can wear it and it is easily accessible while not getting lost. The receiver is on a buckle strap which is helpful for it not getting lost. A snap together buckle, although not real likely to, can become unbunckled by rough play...and my newfie mix can be a rough player, unless I control that. I really want my dog to have freedom, so the control this collar gives me is a must! I also really appreciate the dial control for adjusting the strength, and the options of a short stym or a longer option. I am hoping it will last a long time, as it is helpful and was also fairly expensive.

Great training tool - highly recommend
This is the e-collar used by our trainer. Has 3 modes - vibrate, nick, and steady shock. The dial adjusts the level of shock for the nick and steady shock. Its very durable and has held up well with our crazy pup. Now that our pup has been through training, we rely mostly on the vibrate setting but will sometimes have to give him a light nick for correction. It remote is well designed that the vibrate and nick/steady shock buttons are in different places to prevent confusion. After a short time, it became very natural to hold and operate easily. Battery holds a charge for days and can get lightly wet (donโt use if your dog is wet). Also notice that if we are close to power lines and I touch our dog while heโs wearing the collar and Im holding the remote, he does feel a strong shock.

My Second unit
This is my second unit. The first lasted 10 years with 2 battery changes. These are good units. The range is perfect for me. I have a 2 acre lot. It is water proof and fits my hand great. I really like vibrating warning, electric stim nick, and constant stim if necessary. I train all my dogs with electric collar and have never used constant. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that they changed and move the control for amount of stim - 0 to100. It is a dial now on the upper right face of the control. In the past it was a knob on top of the unit next to the antenna. I keep my unit in my jacket pocket when I walk my dogs "out back". I have found that the in & out of the pocket "moves" the dial so I have to check the intensity of the dial every time I pull it out. I would highly recommend this product. I"ll teach mysely to use the lanyard and hang it around my neck. Maybe.

I do not give 5 stars or do reviews often. However, this one really works!
I had a brat of a dog that we have tried training over and over with different methods, classes, etc. She knows exactly what to do but, more often than not, would simply refuse. Three cheap training collars later I was at my wits end and got this thing with very low expectations. It has only been a few weeks and she is no longer a brat! It took just a couple of very low simulations (shocks below 30%) after pages (vibration function) and she now responds to voice only commands or one page if she is really worked up. Another unexpected benefit is that she also is a happier dog; she is much friendlier with people and other dogs! I was worried she would hate this collar but every morning, on her own, she sits next to the shelf where I keep it and looks at me until I put it on her! If your dog is having training issues I can say this thing works, at least for me, unbelievably well.

Battery life is unbelievable and our dog is transformed.
Nico (3 year old German Shepherd) merely needs to SEE the remote enter our hand, that GESTURE alone gets him in full compliance. So actually pressing the button is not necessary very often, which contributes to it's longer battery life. You shouldn't have ANY regrets making THIS one your "go to" trainer for many years to come. It was our neighbor Pat, (US military K9 handler) who introduced us. He uses THIS exact model on the dogs he trains. And after recommending it for our dog's destructive behavoral rehab, 8 weeks later, well...he's a BRAND NEW dog. He's actually "The Adult Dog" we imagined, the day we chose him from the litter...so this has been Money Well Spent! Considering we previously invested well over $1,000 in personal in-home training from our local K9 Academy ( in 2 1/2 years) my only regret is not discovering THIS solution when he turned 6 months old. Your search for the RIGHT ONE is finally over.

works pretty good
first odd thing Im not sure if I like, is there is no on/off switch for either segments. There is a dot on each one that you have to line up to each other to turn on/off. Benefit, I guess is the dog cant accidentally turn it off, which happened on my old one. Not sure if I like it or not yet, sometimes I leave the collar on my dog but will turn it off to save the battery, now I will have to remove the collar to do this **update, this collar has turned out to help immensely with my 130 Rott. He is smart and easy to train but he can get overly excited and all I need is the buzz on this one and he responds immediately. I have only used the actual zapper part a few times when he was young and now I dont even have to. Then about a year into owning this I had an issue and had to contact customer service, WOW! they are super helpful, know what they are doing and I appreciate them and would gladly recommend this collar system

Great product
This collar works great and is in fact waterproof - although it did not work for me as effectively in the water because the box would turn and move the contacts away from the coat. That is not a negative on the product but more the nature of my dog's coat and activity level. The biggest appeal of this product was that I was able to buy separately some longer contacts. And this was the only one I could find that allowed me to remove the stock contacts and screw these on in its place.

Don't cheap out on an e-collar, get a Dogtra
Expensive but worth it. This collar works when you need it most. I love the peace of mind when my dog is off leash in the forest, in case she goes after a bear, starts eating something nasty, gets too into a play session with another dog, etc. I always have the ability to get her attention with the buzz feature. I rarely need to use the shock feature, maybe once per month. But the fact that I can really dial in the intensity, to just the point where she is uncomfortable but not in pain, was really useful for training. I tried some cheaper collars at first, but they had garbage range and didn't work when I needed them to. This Dogtra blew them all away. My criticism is that it's tricky to turn it on and off. You do it by aligning a small nub on the remote with one on the collar. It's hard to see, basically impossible in low light, so if you have bad eyesight you'll probably hate it.

Game changer
This collar works great but if your dog has thick fur then you'll need to shave a patch of his neck. We tried everything and weren't getting any results, finally got the clippers out and it was go time. I call the remote "the hand of god" cuz there's no escaping me now ;)

Horrrrrrrrible battery life
I should have gone with Sportdog from the start... Far superior product to dogtra. The battery on the dogtra lasted maybe an hour and it's very annoying that there is only one correction level for 2 dogs.
