Hello, no you basically plug it in! It’s an awesome little fridge.

Does food freeze in back of fridge or drawers?

It depends on how much water is in the food and what the setting for coldness is. Anything above setting ~3.5 started producing significant frost and ice residue in the back of the refrigerator compartment, from my experience. Things in the crisper drawer at the bottom have never froze for me. However one time I had a container of sliced tomatoes at the back of the upper fridge shelf, and when I pulled them out the next day to use for a sandwich, they were all frozen (I had the setting at 5 at that time though). Overall though I'd say the freezing effect isn't that big of a deal, and it's good to know to me at least that my food is being kept cold for sure.

Can this be placed on carpet?

Any fridge can go on carpet. If you are in a very moist humid environment you just want to be sure you keep your evaporation pan empty.
