can you fold it in half and use it?

You can absolutely fold it in half! Works Great.

Would this work to put on our bed between the sheet and mattress pad? I wonder if it’s thin enough or if it would stay in place.

It is quite thin and would easily fit between the sheets and the mattress pad but it tends to curl up and probably not stay in place without some type of attachment.

Can you use with you heat and air return?

This product is a pad and is too thick to use as a vent filter. However, we have a special product designed to use on vent air returns to filter out pollutants and odors. No they are not washable but you can place them in the sun periodically to reactivate and reuse
