The Gentle Potty Training Book: The calmer, easier approach to toilet training

I would recommend this book to anyone who has a kid who is or will be potty training soon. Ideally it should be read before potty training starts, but no problem if you start after. I love that it steers away from the rewarding system suggested by other techniques. This book had given enough technical information in an easy to understand language to allow me to understand the physiological process as well as kid's mental capacity to process certain things. Don't let the tittle put you off. I absolutely recommend it!

Super helpful for knowing when/how to potty train.

This is the one that finally worked for us after a good handful of other potty training attempts. Do this one.

Knowing this book was due out around the time of my son's 3rd Birthday and just before the birth of our second child, I ordered it in advance as we have tried potty training twice before that has been unsuccessful. I really like Sarah's views on lots of things- Sleep, Eating, Gentle Parenting- and I was keen to read her thoughts on toilet learning. This book helped me to realise where I had gone wrong in the past: 1. Putting it off until a better time. 2. Giving my son mixed messages by putting him in nappies when we were out for fear of him wetting or soiling himself. 3. Not trusting my son or having confidence in him. 4. Not adequately preparing him emotionally. Following Sarah's guidance we spent a full week properly emotionally preparing him. Since then we started the method she suggests and within a week he is using the potty completely independently both at home and when we are out. No tears and very gentle and respectful. I was surprised at Sarah's cold turkey approach of no nappies from the get-go and no going back to nappies, but what she has suggested really worked with no tears and our son has felt very involved in the whole process. Reading this book helped me to realise that he was ready physically and emotionally (despite me thinking that he wasn't), how important it is to have confidence in your child and tell them, and how important it is to do a fair bit of ground work beforehand to ensure success. Another great book; thank you, Sarah. We can't thank you enough.
