Are the combs metal on this model? FST2

The combs are plastic, and pretty tough. I have put one of the combs through about 30 hours of tough work, about 100 square feet of coil area, and the comb is still in very good shape. Repairing closed-off fins can be slow and difficult, but brings new life into those expensive condensing units.

The description for this malco fst2 fin straightening tool says it's for 16, 18, 20 or 22 fins per inch. does that work for a window air conditioner?

I'm afraid I do not have a real answer. Mine did not work for my car's AC condensor, the fins were too far apart for the tool even at the 16 setting. Measure the # of fins per inch is my best guess.

what setting is good for home AC units?

It has four different sizes. I use it on my window units. It can be difficult to use but it does work. Not sure if it will fit a home unit but it should.
