Such a fun read. I love this series ๐

The book is set a very long time ago when women's rights weren't released yet. This can make it hard to grasp the rules and make them into a story because we are all so used to what we have now, Robin Stevens has paid attention to many factors and has managed to include old laws involving racism and gender stereotypes, which could show the younger generation what its like and that its not good to do. Robin has also allowed us to get to know the characters in a book or more, the exact order of the releases of the books isn't necessary if you don't want to read it in order, which can be quite hard to do, kudos to Robin Stevens for orchestrating an amazing world of lessons, murders, mystery, and even friendship troubles. I loved this book!! โค๏ธ

Best one so far! I've read the entire series together with my 9-year-old daughter, each one reading aloud until our voices fail us. While she was hooked on the series already after the first book, which is enough to make me forever grateful to Robin Stevens, this is the one that had the most appeal to me as a more experienced reader and as a parent: I love how this book brings to the surface the tensions related to race and gender that the are the undercurrent of the entire series. It is set in 1930s Cambridge, which is very literally male territory, and the female detectives have to join forces with boys because women are not allowed access to the crime scene (a boys only college). While the entire series is full of anthropologial observation of the English - Hazel is the outsider looking in on the strange habits of these people - this is the first instalment in which Hazel is not the only non-white character. Bonds and allegiances build along lines of ethnic origin and gender, but never trump the search for justice, which remains a staple of all such murder mysteries. While the 'whodunnit part' is what maintains the young reader's interest throughout, there is so much more to these books...

Daisy and Hazel are back in another intriguing mystery which will delight and confound the most ardent of Detective Society fans. Spending Christmas holidays in snowy Cambridge with Daisyโs brother Bertie, their dreams of festive bunbreaks galore are disturbed when a brutal accident takes place amongst the dark stairwells of Maudlin College. Suspecting that a murder has taken place they set off to uncover the killer whilst trying to outwit a rival agency the Junior Pinkertons who are determined to beat them. Dark and mysterious the story will keep you guessing right to the end with its series of clever twists and turns and once again I failed miserably to identify the culprit. Robin Stevens is a brilliant writer, who manages to make me love each book just a little bit more than the last and Mistletoe and Murder is one of my favourite books of the year. This series is truly irresistible and any of the books would make a fantastic Christmas gift for mystery fans.
