A huge step up and big improvement over my older HD 8
I'm a iPad/Mac user, but, for kindle book reading, I've used a dedicated Fire Tablet HD 8 that I've had for well over 2 years. When this new model 10 inch Fire Tablet was reduced in price during the holidays in 2021, I decided it was time to make the jump to a larger screen (more (paper) book sized) and gain more battery ife per charge due to a larger battery. This 10 incher did not disappoint at all. As a primary use for Kindle books, I'm getting 20 or more % battery life then the 12 hours the specs suggest this tablet can get. The screen quality for reading is perfect. I typically set it to lower brightness (fixed) and there's no glare in the eyes nor any eye strain when using in a darkened bedroom at night. The faster processor then my older 8 inch HD clearly adds some speed to anything you do on this tablet. There's no lag at all in trying it for video, gaming, etc. As stated though, for me, I use a Fire Tablet primarily as a reader, period. Screen resolution and contrast is excellent, certainly not any better ( and a little less) than my iPad PRO, but, of course we're talking a big difference in cost between tablets here and very different display technologies as well. That said, this 10 inch HD Tablet is no slouch in offering a clear, sharp/detailed display with very sufficient color saturation and accuracy plus nice crisp text over-all. Given Amazon offers just about any app needed for this fire Tablet, it certainly could be used for just about everything that an iPad could be and at a competitive price to the new basic model iPad model that sells in the $330+ dollar range now. Some reviewers said due to where the camera is (oddly) located, one must use this Fire tablet in a case with the cover opening to the right rather then to the conventional left, but, not true. Since this tablet can flip screen orientation based on where the top of screen is located, I'm using a hard shell case for my Fire and the conventional left cover opening as normal. Granted the camera is at the bottom left corner in my configuration, but, that is no issue since if one needs to use the camera, they can orient the tablet however they wish and the screen (and camera) will orient as needed for photos. The net here is you can use the tablet in a case and flip open the left cover as normal. As an owner of both an iPad Mini and an iPad Pro 11 inch, I can say in all honesty, anyone wanting a tablet on a budget and hoping to get some decent performance and screen quality plus great battery life won't be disappointed at all in this new model 10 inch Fire Tablet. I got the base 32 GB version with ads. Ads only show on the screen saver when opening up the sleep/wake cover and a one finger flip up of the screen goes back to where you left off or the home screen. Ads really are not a biggie in this context at all. Given one can add a micro SD card to gain more storage space, and Micro SD cards are dirt cheap now, the 32GB version is fine for me. No complaints at all and 5 stars all around for this Fire Tablet. A well designed tablet at a very good price. I highly recommend it! If you order one, it'll be a definite "keeper".

Great screen, good quality for the money
The keyboard case is pretty nice. It basically turns into a nice little laptop. Easy to use and responds quickly without lag. The memory expansion option is nice. I’m happy with it. The split screen feature is great if you want to have music or tv on the side while you read news or surf the web. Update: I’ve had it for around 3 weeks now. I still really like it. It works well as my entertainment laptop. It handles email, streaming services, Kindle and Audible books, Amazon photos, etc. really well. I added the 256GB memory chip. It isn’t a work laptop replacement but is great for entertainment/home use where you’re tired of using your smartphone and want a bigger screen but not a full blown laptop. That’s what this is perfect for in my opinion. I really like the keyboard and find it handy as a good quality storage case in addition to being a keyboard. Very happy with it and would buy again. Update August 12, 2021: I've had this for 2.5 months now and still really enjoy it. I think it is perfect for what I wanted - an entertainment machine. I still wouldn't recommend it as a work laptop replacement, but if you're looking for something to read news, watch TV in a portable way with hot spot on your phone, review email, surf the web, and do your internet shopping - I'd say get this with the keyboard case. For the money, this is as good as you'll get on the market today. Update April 11, 2022: The tablet is still great for my purposes. The add-on keyboard for it had keys that stopped working, so I wouldn't recommend that any longer. I'd buy the tablet itself again for sure though. Haven't had any problems after almost a year and it is still zippy. Still love the HD screen, too. Update August 30, 2022: I still use this regularly at night while watching news in the background. Still love it and would buy again. Never had a glitch or problem with it and still enjoy the high quality screen.

Truly Impressed! Avid Control surface users- don’t hesitate!!
Just before Christmas in 2021, this item popped up on sale for just $75. We’re an apple family. We have numerous iPads in the house, plus our iPhones, Mac, MacBooks, Apple TV, etc. I’m an audio mixer, and use a product from Avid called the S1. It’s a control surface for Pro Tools that is meant to house a tablet for additional functionality- or eye candy. My older IPad worked, but looked tiny in the cradle, and wasn’t all that useable. I wanted something bigger, but didn’t want to spend the money on yet another iPad. For $75, I was willing to roll the dice. It fits great, looks great, and does exactly what I bought it for. But then I started to explore it deeper. It has built in Alexa with the wake word Amazon. As an audio engineer working from home, I sporadically have actors coming to record. I’ve got Ring doorbells at the entrances, and Echo devices in nearly every room. But for the first time, I can say “Amazon, show me the front door!”, and actually SEE it- and a lot faster than the Ring app on my phone would allow. This was a nice bonus. In fact, in my experience and opinion, Alexa works for much quicker and more reliably than Siri, that I’ve found myself relying on it a lot more. Having Alexa in the tablet to verbalize reminders, appointments, phone calls, etc- all right in front of me, is amazing! I became fascinated with my new toy, and downloaded all the steaming media we subscribe to, plus other apps for news and weather that provide lots of content. I quickly found that I enjoyed watching tv on a 10 inch screen a lot more than on my iPhone. It’s nice to have lunch at the table with my kiddo and share a video we can both easily see and hear. So- this little guy has a great screen and works perfectly for watching shows, movies, YouTube, news, etc. Now- I love my iPhone, and have my music library in iTunes. But when I purchase music, it’s always via Amazon. This is because I get my MP3 files instantly for most albums- but then have a physical disc arrive that often goes unopened. I just like know that HAVE the disc if I ever need to load it again or want to enjoy it in my stereo system. My iPhone can store a decent amount of music internally for when streaming isn’t an option. But I was floored to learn that the HD10 2021 has a micro SD card slot that can store up to 1 TB!!! That’s amazing to me. I can preload entire series, movies, music, photos- anything I need for a long trip or chilling in downtime. For like $25 I added a 400 gig card. Why iPads don’t have this is beyond me. I work with and coach voice actors outside of my day job as a recording engineer. Having that much memory on a tablet and access to an app like WavePad, gives them the ability to record in a pinch while away from their studios. On-screen editing is also fun and easy. I actually added a nifty stylus and case to my HD10, along with a Bluetooth keyboard. It’s essentially a mobile studio, albeit limited. While I haven’t experimented a ton with this- Silk browser (which seems to run on Chrome) allows me to use Source Connect Now to tap into actors or listen to sessions remotely at “CD quality”. Of course you can also use Zoom, Skype, etc. As an apple user, I still want access to my ICloud apps, like Contacts, calendar, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, etc. You can log into your iCloud account and get it all. The trick is to choose “request desktop site”, otherwise you dead-end at “find my device”. You can even log into Apple Music via the browser. So all my apple stuff is still with me! I chose Outlook email to run my various work and personal emails and have a unified calendar. It’s perfect for what I need. For $75, I’m finding myself using it more than I have ever used my iPad. It’s the right screen size for me to actually be productive with it, while also having endless entertainment in reach. Add a case, keyboard and stylus- and you’re good to go!

Amazing tablet for entertainment use
I bought this tablet because I was going back and forth on. Did I really need a tablet for my cozy hobby room? Truth is yes I did. I have a great app and I also put on a Stihl classics planner and let me tell you it has been so much fun. It downloads perfectly fast for me. Some people said that it didn't download that they were having problems loading or that the picture was not as clear as they would want. Now sometimes like if I'm watching YouTube sometimes the video is a little fussy. It isn't as clear as as if you were watching on a TV, but it's pretty darn good for its size. I absolutely love the size. It's a little big and obnoxious yes to some people but for what I'm using it for there's nothing really obnoxious for me to say about it because I write on it. I read on it. I love that it has a built-in Kindle I've already put. I don't know how many books on here and I'm so excited because I was able to get a lot of the books that I have had in my list to buy as physical books. Now I have them on my Kindle and they were way less cheaper which is awesome. So I have reading material which I'm totally excited to start my reading goal for 2025. It charges super fast. Let me tell you it is super super fast what else it is sleek it is thin it. The volume was great on it. The power button works great. The only thing that I would say that isn't great about it is the advertisements when you first turn it on and use the slidescreen. I'm a little annoyed by that that you have to pay a $15 fine or fee on it. I mean we already have bought the tablet for what $119 or $130 to some of us or if some of us were really lucky during Christmas time we got it for $79 well me I paid $139 for it. I think the the advertisements should be waived if you pay the full amount. I'm just saying that I'm a little annoyed by it. Every time I turn it on. There's an advertisement that doesn't really you know concern me. I don't like that. I like to be able to turn it on and see my own home screen but I will be taking it off for sure. I will be paying the $15 sadly. But $15 I guess is not so bad. But like I said, if you're paying a hefty price for the tablet already, you should get the the advertisements waived already. Just saying that's the only thing that I would say. That is kind of annoying to me but everything else about the tablet is super fast. It's easy to connect to your internet and I haven't had any issues so far. I'm just very excited to be using my tablet and using it for whatever I need and take it wherever I need to go. So definitely would recommend but also watch out for the ads on the lock screen. So beware. This is March 29th and I still love this tablet. It has gone everywhere with me. I leave it on during the night unplugged till the early morning where it it's at 54% battery in an 8 hour sleep. Also would like to add that you can get Google Play, just google it and follow the step by step on Youtube. I was able to all my apps thst were missing on The Amazon app store. Getting the Google Play app has really made my enjoyment better with the Fire Tablet.

Cost value is off the charts
I do not use HD 10 tablets as I am predominately an iPad user but my nieces and nephews use them near exclusively so I do tend to pick one up from time to time to see how they are before either keeping it as a backup for when they inevitably break one of their tablets or as a backup for myself in a pinch. The wonderful thing, yet again, about Amazon Fire HD tablets are the insane value you achieve for the cost. I am not expecting iPad levels of performance nor the fit and polish but what you get in exchange is absolutely fantastic performance for the cost. I found some of the older Amazon tablets simply too slow even for day to day operation for myself but this new 2021 model? It's the first time the performance is starting to catch up at this price point which means it will only get better from this point. Setup was straight forward and if you're tied into the Amazon eco-system and/or a Prime subscriber, the tablet really extends value into exploring all that Amazon has to offer. I found the screen decently responsive with minimal lag. It isn't perfect and near instantaneous, but it is much better than previous generations. The Amazon app store has numerous apps that work great and at the heart of this tablet it is an Android device which opens up other options if you so choose. The screen quality is more than acceptable. You won't be blown away, but you won't be disappointed either at this price point. The sound quality is average at best. For casual use it is fine, but if you are playing games, listening to music or watching a movie, I'd definitely recommend headphones. The thinness, weight and form factor are great for a 10" display. I found the unit a bit slippery for my tastes and put it in a classic smart folio case and that fixed that. Charging time is decent and battery life is pretty exceptional for normal use. In summary, it is a good tablet that really shines if you're a Prime member or deeply embedded in Amazon services. It has a good screen, fast enough response as to not cause fits, ok sound and good battery life. What elevates it clearly is the value you achieve at this price point versus much more expensive tablets that while they are clearly better the return on investment isn't as high. 5/5

Best fire tablet - with some tweaks!!
I've owned a few fire tablets in the past, and they all had been left to collect dust in a drawer just a few months after purchasing them - and honestly, I think the only reason I purchased this one was a good amount of wine and a HEAVY Cyber Monday discount - and I am SO glad I did. With a few tweaks - adding a case that props the tablet in portrait and landscape, buying a separate bluetook keyboard (details below), and downloading the Google Play Store make this tablet feel and act as a mini 2-piece laptop. Highlights: - This is not an IPad or high-end Samsung tablet, but for under $150 you are getting a quality machine - If you wait for a sale (black friday, prime day, etc) you can get an even better deal. With a bonus of at least 20% off if you have another amazon tablet or product to trade in for it (I purchased mine for $45... Seriously) - It only comes with the Amazon Appstore which is super weak and limiting - but you CAN download the Google Play store - see info below, or just google it - This is NOT your device for intense photo/video editing or gaming - This IS your device for media consumption, emails/light documents, and websurfing - Has a great battery life - just remember to turn off the wifi, if none is available - Upgraded to the USB-C charger - thank goodness!!! But this is your only port other than the audio jack - invest in a USB-C port dongle that can expand your port reach - You can spend the $15 after the fact to remove adds from the lock screen if they are an issue for you - you can do this through your Amazon account Downloading the Google Play Store: I found this in another person's review, and it totally worked. It takes less than 10mins - Search "Fred's Aquariums" step by step instructions on YouTube called " How to download Google Play Store on 2021 Amazon Fire HD 10" - It essentially will give you the path to download a few APK files in a specific order - pay attention to the directions - Downloading the Google Play Store was one of the easiest things to do, and honestly regardless the pricepoint you end up paying for this device - unlocking the Google Play Store really brings this tablet to life and increases the value of a budget tablet - Hello Youtube, Chrome, Gmail, Duo, etc etc etc!! Case and Keyboard info: - Case purchased - SITHON Case for All-New Amazon Fire HD 10 & 10 Plus Tablet, PU Leather Smart Stand Cover with auto wake/sleep - $18 - Keyboard purchased - Logitech K380 Multi-device Bluetooth Keyboard - $30

Light, responsive, great resolution, easy to use
I've used Fire 8. It's a good tablet. Nothing fanciful. Resolution was bad, 1080 etc. Anyway, I knew that when I bought the tablet. But the speed dragged too much for me to like the tablet. I only used it for streaming, games, and light online research. When Amazon had a sale on this Fire 10, I traded in my 8. I'm so glad I did. First important thing. The resolution is excellent. I think Samsung A8 tablet seems a little sharper, but I may be off. Anyhow, I am very, very happy with the display on the Fire 10. Compared to the 8, this one is royalty good. I love watching movies on this 10 tablet. Battery life so far is excellent. One charge lasts more than 10 hours and that is for streaming. The touchscreen is fantastic. I love it. Very responsive! When streaming, the volume bar also lets you mute the notifications. I did not see this feature on the Samsung Galaxy A8. That extra feature on the 10 is useful when you don't want to be disturbed. Size of the 10 is great for carrying around and for daily use. Streaming on the 10 size is more pleasant. 8 is too small for that. Like other reviewers, I wish this 10 has google playstore, especially google meet. Very disappointing that Amazon locked out google. That is a BIG MINUS for me in terms of the 10 tablet. I knew this before the purchase. I'd still keep the 10 because I like it and Amazon had offered a good trade-in value and discount on it even at the sale price. When this tablet is on sale, and especially if you can trade-in an older one, I would recommend getting the 10. It's easy to use. Even for seniors who are uncomfortable with computers. I have a bluetooth keyboard and it connected easily. Love my new 10! Thanks, Amazon. If only I had google meet on this tablet as well.

A great entertainment tablet with some welcome surprises
Having owend previous Fire tablets, I bought the Fire HD 10 knowing full well that it was immersed in the Amazon ecosystem and that Google Play and its apps are not part of the operating system. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e as my go-to tablet for productivity. I bought the Fire HD 10 to do exactly what it was designed for - read my Kindle books, watch movies/tv shows on Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc. and listen to music on Spotify, Pandora and Amazon Music, all without interruption. This version of the Fire 10 does all of that beautifully. The multimedia apps open quickly and my show or music is playing without lag. What I didn't expect was how similar the Fire HD 10 was to the uberexpensive S5e in terms of responsiveness and size. I always thought the s5e was the pinaccle of idea shape for an entertainment tablet - expansive screen but compact enough in its dimensions to hold in one hand. The Fire HD 10 is almost the same dimensions in casing length and width (though a bit thicker). Even the viewable screen dimensions aren't that much different (8.86" l x 5.5" h for the s5e compared to 8.46 x 5.31 h for the Fire HD 10). Picture quality is also outstanding. You won't get as much audio from the speakers on the Fire HD 10, but considering its price point, that's to be expected. What was a pleasant surprise was the little button in the lower left corner of the home screen that automatically brings up all your Alexa-connected smart devices (echoes, smart plugs, thermostats, etc) so they can be controlled with a tap. That was a feature I hadn't read about in the reviews, and I LOVE it. I have found even the battery life of this unit to be comparable to what I'm getting with my other tablet as well, which lasts several days without need for a charge. I haven't put this tablet through its paces with respect to the productivity or social media apps (the point of this purchase was NOT to install those) but for media consumption it is a fantastic device and highly recommended.
