What is the thickness of the metal ears of the tool that goes behind the gear, or bearing you are pulling?

If you are referring to the bottom, let's say the claws on either side, it's about an 1/8" protruding on either side. I used it to remove a paddle fa n bearing (35mm o.d. x 15mm i.d x 11mm w), and was great.

Can this puller be used to pull a wiper arm?

You couldn’t pull a sick old lady off the piss pot with that pile of junk. Mine broke immediately trying to pull a gear off the lawn mower starter.

Ich musste bei meinem Motor das Primärzahnrad wechseln, es saß seit 65 Jahren bombenfest auf seinem Konus. Es gibt ein teures Spezialwerkzeug dafür, aber ich habe es mit diesem Abzieher versucht. Zunächst habe die die Spindel des Abziehers gut mit Motoröl geschmiert (Fett oder Öl ist dabei egal, hauptsache nicht trocken verwenden). Dann den Abzieher angesetzt und mit einem Ringschlüssel mit viel Kraft an der Spindel gedreht. Damit hat es gut funktioniert.
