No, it does not have a bait cage inside. This is a small trap for day crabbing. It is not an overnight crab trap with a bait cage inside. But we have been using it for day crabbing, and it works very well. We just attach the bait to the bottom of the cage with a plastic zip tie.

does this open four ways on all four sides?

I don't know I sent mine back it was too small

this looks like something the coyote would try to use to catch ...

beware of what you're getting a 10 1/2" by 10 and half INCH box.. this looks like something the coyote would try to use to catch the road runner. Instructions are clear, easy to set up, thank god i live on the water so i can see how this bad boy works right now! this is not a sit and wait like a crab pot FYI.. could be modified into a crab pot if you know how i guess. this is more for sport than for catching dinner

I did not pay attention to the dimensions the trap you receive is not the one pictured. That’s my fault not there’s how ever the quality is sub par the string is too small and not tied correctly to the trap and the doors have trouble opening in the water due to them not being heavy enough.
