Is the sheath nylon or plastic like a kydex sheath. Does it snap in securely so it can be carried upside down?

It's nylon, it can't be carried upside down it's a standard belt sheath. In my opinion don't waste your money on any grand way products. They are cheapley made.

Is the cap threaded or welded on? what are the dimensions of the tang?

By pictures of broken ones I'd say threaded with locktite
