Machinery's Handbook, CD-ROM Upgrade

Had difficulty getting the upgrade software loaded. Contacted their customer support for help, which I seldom do. A couple of emails back and forth, they identified my problem, I wasn't typing in the registration code correctly. Was typing a "1" instead of the letter "I". A little embarrassing on my part. Once the software was loaded, you have to login using that same code. I assume it stores this code on you local drive. But each time you want to access the software, it gets permission from the publisher. Which means, if you don't have a internet connection, you don't get to use the software. I still have my 26th edition installed in case I don't have an internet connection.Ken

This upgrade edition of Machinery's Handbook requires proof of purchase of a previous Machinery's Handbook CD version. Setup requires that you enter the registration number of your previous version before installation. This was not stated anywhere when ordering and it is not stated on the CD case itself which states "No Additional purchase necessary". Huge letdown as your only alternative to purchasing the CD version is the barely legible print edition with transparent paper. I will attempt to return and go with a different book.

The book is the book, but the CD-ROM does not contain standard Adobe PDF files you can use the ways you expect to be able to use ebook files. They are copy protected with a scheme called FileOpen. You won't be allowed to view the files offline, or on multiple machines, or at all if you don't allow it to install its privacy-compromising plug-in.

I had the exact same experience as JP Norman (other reviewer) The CD rom shown and described had no mention of being an "upgrade" version. I read the description carefully before ordering. The version send does not look like the advertisement. The product description has now been changed to indicate this is an upgrade that requires a previous version of the book to load.
