I tried uploading a video of this plasma ball working, but I was unable to do so. I don’t know why. I did however take two photos to show you just how brilliant this plasma ball is. When I was back in high school in the 80s, I got an eye of the storm plasma ball for my birthday. It was ridiculously expensive, but it was really cool and I loved it. This Katzco plasma ball works just as well as the eye of the storm did, in fact, I think the display of the plasma gas tendrils is much fuller and more brilliant than the eye of the storm’s display. For the price, you can’t go wrong with purchasing this particular plasma ball. The glass globe is 7 inches in diameter as advertised. The pyramidal black base is made of plastic and, at first glance, does feel a little cheap. But it’s just a base that gets the job done, and I wasn’t expecting a stainless steel base for the price point on this item. The three-way switch works perfectly. It has three modes; off, on constantly, and the sound activated mode, which makes the display flash on and off with music, voices, or any sufficiently loud sound. All of the modes work perfectly so far. At this point, I’m giving this item a five star review. It works flawlessly for the price I paid, and the plasma display is much more brilliant than I expected. I truly wish I could’ve uploaded a video, but everything I tried did not work. I hope you can get an idea of the brilliant display from the two pictures I uploaded. If this product should fail or break in a short timeframe, I will revisit this review and update it accordingly.

Absolutely spectacular gift for any boy or girl or even adult who is fascinated with science and electricity. The ball is amazing! My son saw this at a field trip he had and mentioned it to me. So I knew exactly what he was talking about and I gave it to him as a gift. Unfortunately, my 5 year old daughter was transferring it to another table. She didn't drop it, but her body swiped it and it fell off the table and shattered... Glass everywhere! If it had decent rubber no-slip pads /feet underneath, this would not have happened since she slightly brushed against it with her tiny body. The other thing I wasn't happy with was that the plasma ball would not 'dance' to music. Didn't matter how loud and how many beats, it didn't respond. In that mode, it only responded to someone facing at it with their mouth and yelling. Each yell would cause it to activate for a short burst. That is why I am giving it 4 stars. I accept responsibility and hold myself accountable. But such a lightweight fragile glass device with no sturdy rubber feet to prevent it from sliding? A shame.

I bought as a gift and its a hit, really cool and great quality.

Purchased as a talking point for a work event. It does not light well in daylight, but that's to be expected. The ball is made of glass and the colors are honeslty beautiful, though more subtle than pictured. Honestly, for the money, I felt really happy with this purchase. I've seen others not nearly as good. It ran continuously for our 4 day event with no issues. My one complaint is that the base is very light plastic that moves easily on a slick surface when touching. We anchored it with double sided thick clear sticky tack and that worked well.

Work great as a night light

My son loves this. We haven’t had it long yet, but the kids in our house are not easy on toys. This one has lasted so far without any issues. It’s very fun.

Just 3 months old and the plasma ball is malfunctioning. The static electricity distinct lightning bolts have turned into soft billowing ghostly movements with little light output. Looks like smoky vapor trails now. I'd give it 1 star, but it does look interesting, so I keep using it. Maybe the plasma will keep disintegrating into nothing.

The coolest for kids and parents that grew up in the 80s!

The product is smaller than it appears in the pictures. It arrived with a broken side of the base. Additionally, it seems to be a copy of the brand rather than an original.

I literally squealed with excitement when unpacking the box. Then was absolutely mesmerized by the plasma ball. Very happy with the quality. Will buy a second one.

Product works fine but bulb was missing as shown on the photo. No point of spending extra money for the bulb.
