Are there instructions? I received this as a gift but there aren't any instructions.

You have received a very nice gift. Your External Hard Drive came with a small cable. Just plug it into your WD Easystore 4tb External Hard Drive, then plug the other end into your computer's USB Port (Normally in front of computer). The Drive should automatically open a window showing what is stored on the Drive. If it does not automatically open, you can Double Click on "This PC" or "Computer" on your Desktop and open it that way. There should be a few files on the Drive normally used for backup or whatever. NOW - You have a nice External Hard Drive plugged into your computer where you can store Videos, Photos, Auto Books, and Backup Data such as your Documents. The Drive you received probably has twice the storage capacity that your computer has. If you do not use the new External Hard Drive often, you can just unplug it from the computer and replug it when you with to use the Drive. Nice Drive - Nice Gift. Good Luck.....

what is the difference between this model and the Passport?

The Easystore does not have built in encryption but reportedly has more software features

Western Digital, la vieja confiable..

Tenía mis dudas de este disco ya que hay pocas reseñas en Internet, y éstas son ambiguas, sin embargo la marca WD nunca me ha defraudado y me decidí la compra. Es un dispositivo robusto, bien construido y compacto, Plug and play sin problemas, particiones sin problemas, velocidad de escritura /lectura decentes, tiene un led blanco para indicar que está encendido, nada de encriptacion , al menos a mi no me interesa ya que es para audio y video, y nada de opciones avanzadas, un disco simple y funcional...la única pega hasta este momento que es algo lento para copiar o mover archivos MUY grandes, pero nada que demerite al desempeño global.. Recomendable.
