Affordable, Chef-quality kitchen knives
These knives are of superb quality. They are well-designed and built - and razor-sharp. This particular set that I bought contains the complete variety of knives that we use. We have had these and been using them for a year now with no issues with craftsmanship or rust or other stains. Before you balk at some of the other reviews, yes, they are German-made but assembled in China. Again, no issues with craftsmanship; assembly in China makes them affordable. So, one year in, they are still razor-sharp (we use cutting boards and never cut on china or ceramic), and no signs of wear and tear (we hand-wash so no etching or ther damage by caustic dishwashing detergents). A word of caution, these knives are so sharp that we have both been reminded more than once of how to properly handle a knife! But I have no complaints. These knives have a reputation for lasting a long time but would definitley buy again.

Good quality knives
Professional quality knives. We have been using them for two years now and they still look new. We do not put them in the dishwasher preferring to hand wash. The wood block keeps the knives sharp. Still happy woth purchase.

It is a VERY large block.
VERY large block! Knives are great and aside from not being dishwasher safe, so far so good!

Great value roll of the dice.
Let me start off by saying that I appreciate good quality knives (my everyday pocket knife is a carbon fiber Benchmade Osborne, which now costs the same as I paid for this entire set), but I am no way a knife snob. Ideally, I would have preferred to get a nice set of forged German knives, but unfortunately my wife was not willing to spend 2.5k on one. I was torn between getting a set of German made stamped knives or a set of Chinese made forged knives with hopefully German steel, engineering, and oversight. Ultimately I took a chance on this Henckels 20 piece set. It checks almost all the boxes on what knives I need in a set while having minimal or no extraneous/novel knives. However, I would have loved to see a birds beak pairing knife included in this set. On first inspection, the fit and finish is good, not great. Most of the edge grinds were close to equal and are useable. The utility, boning, both paring knives, and all of the serrated knives were not paper cutting sharp out of the box. The tip of the 6" utility knife was bent almost a full 1/8th inch out of the box which resulted in an unequal edge grind (see photos). This was clearly bent at the factory prior to final edge grinding of the knife. A casual user, including my wife, would probably not notice this defect. I may try to get a warranty replacement, if possible, but probably won't take a chance at bending it back at the risk of snapping the tip off. When comparing against a German made Wusthof Classic, the machining and finish of this set is a step or two below, something that is to be expected with Chinese manufacturing. Hopefully extended use will not reveal any durability issues, especially with the handles, with this product. The block for this set is almost a full 16" long, 5" longer than what it needs to be to accommodate the longest knives. On a standard 24" kitchen countertop, it makes the portion it sits on unusable for anything else. I will likely end up cutting 5" off the back so it doesn't visually look so out of place. I would have also liked to see a version without the ceramic "self sharpening" inserts in the block, as I feel they are a gimmick and potentially would do more harm than good to the knife edge. Ultimately, at the $300 price point I paid, I think this set represents great value and maybe at the $400 mark as well. Really it is just a roll of the dice on your particular set you get from the factory due to poor quality control. One star reduction for the bent knife tip. Otherwise, the quality is what is to be expected for an inexpensive Chinese made knife set that punches above its price point. Overall, I would recommend getting this set.

Great medium priced knife.
My wife was used to a much cheaper knife. She’s now afraid to cut herself with as sharp as these are. Self sharpening is good and for we’re hand washing them. Great weight to the knives as well.

Steak knives could be better
Great cutlery blades. The steak knives tears the meat more than it cuts. Smooth blade is much better for longevity and effectiveness. Put a bit of a damper on an other wise excellent set. Great eye appeal.
