I don't think people are getting ceramic tiles. The cost of this game is pretty consistent anywhere you look. The double set is two single sets so you get a bit of a break.

Yes, with 288 tiles (in Double Bananagrams) the instructions state you can have up to 16 players—definitely would work for 8. Very fun game!
