This is a low profile box that can be surface mounted. I purchased this for wiring inside our cottage in an area where I wasn't able to get into a wall. I am pleased with the box and its made by a trusted company (leviton)

I added an outlet inside a cabinet for so lighting. I was please to discover that the back snaps off the box, making it easy to work with. Mounted the back plate, hooked up the duplex then snapped the box back in place. Clean look since the only knock outs is in the back plate
