Does this tanner have a strong smell like the rest of the self tanners?

Not too strong of a smell. However, if you go with the Fake Bake spray on tanner it smells amazing! Just like coconuts!

Unlike the spray/mot version, can you apply lotion on after the product?

i wait about 30 minutes for it to soak in and then apply lotion, it dries pretty quickly

No. During application process, right after putting it on I washed the dishes and a couple drops of water got on my arms so I had noticeable weird spots. After application it obviously fades everytime u expose your tanned parts with water.

Does this work better than fake bake flawless with the mitt? I have that one right now and it always comes off in the shower..

Yes!! Much better! The lotion will fade some in the shower but you'll still have your base tan. Also, the lotion lasts way longer. When you are running low, you can cut the tube and have an extra application! 
