Great board and good cheap knife. Oil the board!
Got the board Saturday. Unboxed last night. The board came dry. Knife came sharp. 1. Oil the board. If you don't oil the board, it will warp. Simple smear a thick layer of mineral/olive/canola/grape seed/flaxseed oil, and let it soak into the wood. This board is thin, flatsawn wood. 2. Board is nicely machined, and sits stable. 3. Knife is wickedly sharp, but cheaply made....a good cheap knife. It's not a $300 Heiji santoku, but I'm shocked at how good this is... considering that this is essentially a free knife. I have considered making my own board for a long time, but glad I didn't. It would cost me at least as much in materials as to just buy this board....and my time is much too expensive.

Needs only minor tweaks to be perfect!
Not much to add that others haven’t already said. Good knife that’s a little lightweight. I pulled out the whetstones and put an extra sharp edge on it. Cutting board showed up bone dry and unfinished so I hit it with three coats of warm cutting board oil and one thick coat of conditioner. Darkened it up nicely and makes it look really sharp. All in all good addition to my car camping kit.

Box is raw wood
I love the whole idea of this product. But, the wooden box has no finish on it. It is sanded pretty good, but no oil or finishing other than that has been done to it. The knife is ok. Not expensive quality, but good enough. You will have to do some finishing on the wood to make it a good cutting board which is what it meant to be.

Of course it warps if you don't seal the wood!
The case arrives looking like a bright white block of balsa wood ready for whittling into your next model plane or soapbox derby. You need to season it with a food-safe oil before chopping any food on it. Search for "Cutting board oil". I added a small bottle of Howard's BBB012 Cutting Board Oil to my Amazon order. I didn't expect the knife to be the fanciest one in our arsenal. It's a nice size, adequate quality, plenty sharp, and is held in place with a magnet in the case. Since minimizing space and safe storage of a large, sharp blade were my main requirements, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Great gift for the outdoor chef in your life
Got this for my dad as he likes to camp in his van and has limited space for storage. He loves it. It is relatively lightweight if you plan on hiking. It's extremely durable and the knife slot is really handy for space and avoiding accidental cuts when transporting. Great gift for the outdoor chef in your life!

Convenient, but a bit of work.
I ordered the small version for a travel cutting board. I like what it has to offer, but consider it more of a wood working project. The board is completely untreated and needs a lot of work if you do it correctly. I essentially disassembled it, and started a three step process of butcher block oil, butcher block conditioner, and finally butcher block hard wax. It took me a week between coats before it finally developed a proper stain resistant finish. I realize this may seem extreme, but there are health benefits to doing it this way. You’re much less likely to harbor bacteria 🦠, or have bacteria penetrating the wood pores between sessions. While I was occupied with the wood working process, I asked my significant other to use the knife 🔪 in the kitchen for her end of the evaluation. The knife blade edge is 5 inches long with an overall length of 9 inches. The blade is thin but sharp. The word sharp can be subjective, but I can state it would cut hair on anyone’s arm with a little pressure. The knife handled most of the little chores, but lacked the length or thickness for the larger ones. After a week’s use. I resharpened it at 15* degrees per side with diamond hones then finished up with a strop. The knife took a keen edge, and despite some reviewers implying it was of lesser quality, I think they might be referring to the knife being made the lightest for travel that Snow Peak could get it. All and all, ℹ would recommend this as a travel cutting board and knife combo. In hindsight, I would have chosen the larger version and will probably do so in the near future. Be prepared to use a little elbow grease to properly season the board. This was the only reason I gave it four 4️⃣ stars. Included are the before and after treatments of the board.
