Review: Recommended to me by a Facebook group devoted to Georgette Heyer, and so pleased I read the rec and bought the book. Sweet, somewhat predictable - but well written. The prologue had me audibly chuckling. It was a truly delightful read (and from the astute recommendations of Nina I feel there are more books I need to get my hands on). Also, if you are following the societal issues in Britain, some of them are touched on (deftly, but not ignored) This is a book that is staying on my bookshelves for a re-read. Review: Loved characters and soft plot. Perfect bedtime read. Usual Jenny Colgan book.

First one of 3 good read and story

Truly … this was such a delightful read. As a matter of fact, I am now inspired to find my own used delivery truck, old school bus or some other larger capacity motor vehicle, to build my own dream into. I can imagine gutting it out, and adding my own personal touches to have it match the inner workings of my soul. I think about it a lot now. I’ve even started adding ideas to a Pinterest board because I love the idea that much! I want to dive into and share the characters of this story however … they are a little dry. Like … if you just added water, a more plump, rounded and hydrated being would emerge and come to life. There were subtle details of each of the characters, which true to the author’s assurance, they all possessed their own names and they were easily distinguishable and yet, they lacked hydration … if that makes any sense. I want to tell you the rich content in the conversations and the details of each setting but … they lack salt. I mean … If you sprinkled salt all over everything, it may have matured the flavor a little more. It’s all there … even the descriptions but … they lack flavor. The descriptive words were lacking a richness that invited me to savor and bask in the warmth of their embrace. And yet … it was a very enjoyable read for me. It was almost like I was eating a bowl of icecream and some off flavor was added, like oregano or parsley or something and yet the icecream was so good, I ate it anyway even though the flavor was a little off. I did find myself turning page after page and the author wrote in such a way that there were plenty of places to pause and/or put the book down because my life was calling to me and I had to get up and take care of my personal business. I love a book like that because I read … every day, but I’m not the kind of reader that carries a book with me where ever I go. Instead, I have my sacred morning ritual with a cup of coffee and an hour or sometimes a little more, to read. It’s a delicious time of day for me and I’ll pull myself out of bed a little early, just so I do not skip this moment of my day. The pauses and chapter endings were what I consider to be perfect! I would recommend this book. It’s absolutely delightful and I have been inspired and … I will always take a happy ending. And yet … I will not pick up another book by this author. It was an enjoyable read, but not enough that I will ask you to pass the salt or let you sprinkle oregano on my icecream. Right now … I think I’ll pour me a tall glass of water and chug it until my thirst is quenched!

I have just started reading Jenny Colgan, this is my second book. Her character development is what has attracted me, some books leave you not caring for the characters, not Jenny Colgan, you love almost all the characters even the grumpy ones and cheer for their success. This book is an easy, fun read!
