This little hand generator is perfect to demonstrate the production of electrical power and the effort required. It is very robust--not toy-like--particularly given the price. Be certain to check the setting of the "low/hi" output switch before thinking it defective. Mine came set on "low" and a it took me a touch of study to figure out the problem. A multimeter verified the claimed output voltage; actual current (amperage) is quite low. I did not measure but I suspect less than 1/2 ampere as while it can reasonably light an incandescent lamp of the sort used in automotive gauges, it can barely get a glow out of one intended for use as an overhead dome light. Low current output is intended for operating electronics experiments that require very little power.
