The most powerful being in the galaxy that is on his way to becoming the most powerful being in creation. But I suppose they have to have a sequel ready if necessary. I wasn't sure how Taylor, Hairsine, et al. were possibly going to top the amazing work they did in DCeased. But they did it. They godd*mn they did it. This story picks up several years after the ending of the first DCeased event and, while very much an ensemble piece, closely follows Jon Kent, as a bright and promising Superman, and Constantine, ever his world-weary wise-ass self, as they lead simultaneous but separate efforts to take back the world from the unliving. In many ways, the character work here reminded me of another major work by Tom Taylor, Injustice. Almost as if Taylor took the work he did there, riffed on it, and dare I say, improved it? Almost like a remix of a remix, that somehow keeps getting better? There are clever twists and turns with well known characters, gut-wrenching surprises, and unforgettable set pieces. But most of all, despite the grim tone and the horrific deaths, this is actually a hopeful and uplifting story, believe it or not, which impressed me all the more. Ultimately, this is a must-read DC story. I absolutely recommend it without hesitation, and while this event ends on a satisfying note, I know it leaves room for more stories in this world, and I absolutely hope to read more from this amazing team.
