I bought this because I wanted to put field maps in it to be protected from dirt and other factors. Most importantly, because it has a strap that I can carabine to my backpack. For MY use, I like that I can leave it dangling on the side and quickly pull up with my hand when needed. The case seems like a giant ziploc (it does have a ziploc sealer) bag with the plastic fabric stitched around it. While the think vinyl works great in minor rain, I don't see the case 100% waterproof should there be a major storm or if the map case becomes submerged in liquids. I do see minor fibers around the stitching becoming detached in hair lengths and thickness. I think the case is great for medium duty but wouldn't depend on it when the wraths of mother nature wishes to appear.

This is a really good size, it makes it easy to fold a useful amount of a route up in a way that makes it accessible.

For the money this is a pretty good map holder, I've not used it in wet conditions so can't say with confidence that it is 100% waterproof. It has a zip lock style seal which then has a velcro flap over it so I would think it would be pretty waterproof. Nice and easy to use with a good length strap so you can carry it around your neck. The double sided window is a nice feature as well, my only criticism is that it only folds down one way so you have to make sure the section of map you want to see when it is folded down is on the right side.
