This drive enclosure is exactly what it says it is, which is great! It is inexpensive, light weight, small, and an aluminum shell, with a reasonably performant chipset and USB-C interface. It is USB bus powered and comes with a USB A to USB C cable, so everything is open to use it easily. No issues have shown themselves after several hundred gigs of transfers. Installation is quick and painless with the included tiny screw driver and screws, and it doesn't feel like things are going anywhere. The fit was great with an old half tb WD SSD, but probably wouldn't suggest a spinning HD with it as there isn't great dampening nor thermal transfer since you have to slide it against the aluminum rather than place the aluminum over the top of it and there is no airflow possibility. Perfect for SSDs though.

Works great, my ssd fit perfectly, and I really like the all aluminum shell. The issue other reviewers mentioned about the cable not seating all the way in may have been fixed since mine appears to be flush, or at least does not stick out far at all. Speed seems to be appropriate for my basic ssd.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I picked this due to the sleek and solid frame. This is being exposed to the user, and ads a little class to the ordinary plastic everything else is made out of. The external is SATA3, true to USB 3 transfers from the disk. The plastic tray leaves a little to be desired, however, if you ham fist computer parts, you probably should go work on a dozer. It will get warm. Not hot. I have measure 92-95F. Super inexpensive for an enclosure that looks good sitting, transferring data, like it should. I would not use this as a travel buddy. I have other, more robust/insulated devices for that.

The enclosure is a good metal housing with a plastic sleigh that holds the drive and the circuit board. The package comes with the enclosure, manual, 6 hard drive screws, a plastic sticker to put on the bottom of the hard drive to prevent scratching, and a USB 3 type A to C cable. The USB controller is a JMS576 by JMicron. This controller is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Which is the same thing as USB 3.0 but I digress) to SATA 3 (6 Gb/s) controller. The build quality is very good for the price with one issue being the possibility of slight warping due to the shell being metal. The USB-C port isn't as deep as other ports, so some of the connector is still exposed, but it isn't that big of a deal for the foreseeable future. I cannot test the performance of the enclosure/adapter since I do not have an SSD to test with. Overall, it's a good enclosure if you have some old hard drives lying around, but I can't recommend it for faster drives and applications until I or someone else tests the performance of the adapter.

I've had a Samsung 1TB SSD in an external USB 2.0 case for the last few years. I use it to store backups of the files on my Windows 10 system. It works well, but I've always been disappointed in the throughput. I came across this case the other day and decided to see what USB C 3.1 could do for me. WOW!!! What a difference. Windows was always slow to write lots of small files to an external drive. That is not an issue anymore. My throughput is now 4 times faster with my same old SSD mounted in this new case. My backups are soooo much faster now. However, there are some recommendations I would like to suggest to the manufacturer. First, loose that stupid screwdriver you include with the case. It would probably work but it looks like it is designed to strip screw heads. I'm sure everyone that intends to use a case like this has access to MUCH better screwdrivers than the one that's included in the kit. Second, in place of that screwdriver add 4 small rubber feet that can be applied to the bottom of the case (I added my own). There are several reasons this case needs these feet: 1) Better air circulation around the case will keep the drive cooler and will help it to last longer. 2) It keeps the case from scratching whatever surface you place it on [and also prevents other things from scratching the bottom of the drive case]. 3) It keeps the case from sliding around [without the rubber feet, the case can shift around due to the stiff USB cord and any minor vibration that may occur].

So far it does what I want...read DVD and BluRay discs. I was able to also write a DVD., and it appeared to be able to write a BluRay but I did not have a double-side BR disc to write to. I was skeptical regarding the price but happy so far. Previously I had purchased an expensive BR/DVD external drive that cost over 3-times this one. That one had repeated read errors on my discs whether DVD or BluRay. I returned that one and bought this one. My only small issue is at times when you close the disc drawer it pops open and requires another try. When operating I consider the its noise level to be normal for these devices compared to those I have had..

This is an IMMEDIATE first impression. The guy complaining that "it feels mushy" around the USB-C port either had a defective unit or didn't pay attention to the screw pattern. The SSD screws into the internal plastic frame with TWO screws at one end, and then you put the internal plastic frame into the aluminum case and install the two remaining screws. If it feels "mushy" it's because your drive is smaller than the frame, not because the device is faulty - use your head, fellow human, shim it out. Perfect fit for a Samsung SSD, no nonsense, no mush, no shim. I get as-expected transfer speed. Finally, the shell is CHONK.

The aluminum enclosure is compact and easy to assemble. I used it to repurpose a spare Samsung EVO 850 SATA III 250 GB SSD into an external storage drive for my laptop. Will be useful on trips for extra storage. Much faster than my USB thumb drives. Plug and play without any issues so far. One reviewer complained about not getting two cables. The very detailed product description states one USB-C to USB-A cable is included. (Running Windows 11 on desktop/laptop). Purchased in June 2025. Update (9/13/25): Unable to boot my computer this afternoon and urgently needed some information stored in my desktop computer's. Removed the SSD from the computer (Samsung EVO 870 4TB) and placed it in the enclosure. Plugged it in my laptop and was able to retrieve the information needed. Yes, I have multiple backups. Unfortunately, one of them is in my bank's safety deposit box (it's Saturday and the bank is closed) and the other is on a 5TB HDD which has to be inserted in a built-in enclosure on the desktop. Since I have no way to connect it to the laptop, it's useless. Ordering another enclosure today for another spare SSD. Also ordering a USB dock which can handle both SSDs and HDDs.
