A great tool!
Bought one of these nearly 18months ago. And it has been worth its weight in gold. Its large and heavy but manageable by a single person and I have used it to a depth of 2.5/3ft. It gets through very compacted ground and handles stones well. 10/10. I've used to for fence posts, checking drainage in compacted soil, breaking soil up, making holes for foundations and planting trees and bushes. Never thought we'd find so much use for it. Only wish there was a smaller version as well to make narrower holes

200 mm soil auger
This is a very well made auger especially given the price. Used in place of an underground Drain Silt Bucket - far more effective at removing silt and much cheaper. Also will be used as a planter. A very useful item.

Great time saver
I bought this to install numerous 4" x 4" fence posts in the back garden. I was able to dig each hole 600mm deep in about 20 minutes. Prevously I have used a narow fence post spade but the difference in time to dig was huge as you end up digging a hole far bigger than is needed with the spade. One of the best tools I have bought in years. Very rugged too.

Feel like Archimedes in your back garden!
Good strong auger and a decent size. Works well in soil but jams when there are any decent size rocks which is usual. I used it to dig 24 2 foot deep holes and would have been there all day without this tool. The only minor downside is that the handle is removable and the small retaining bolt gets in the way and catches your hands as it's too long. I replaced it with a smaller one.

Not the cheapest but seems to work well cutting into heavy clay.
I have used this to investigate my heavy clay garden to find the best place for soakaways. This means that I have used it to dig about a dozen holes as deep as the length of the handle will allow. The soil is heavy clay with stones and this can do the job, but it takes some effort. The trick is to not to do too much at a time. To prevent instant hernias, especially when going deep, it's best to only cut about max one turn at a time and remove the soil. The tool will do more, but when it bites it is effectively digging itself in and you are having to rip that soil free. The temptation is to do several turns before pulling it out, but the sheer effort involved in pulling the tool out is exhausting.

Can you dig it ... ? probably.
I bought this to install some wooden fence posts. I have to say it's been a life-saver. In anything but rocky ground, it works very efficiently and can easily dig a 16" hole in a minute or so. It's not great on stony/rocky ground, especially if you're unlucky enough to get a stone underneath the centre of the auger, but this is a bit of a special case anyway. Saved me hours or time, and loads of labour.

Bootiful post holes
I bought this because I had eight fence posts that I had to install. Really glad that I bought it too. It made it easy to dig 6" diameter, 2-foot deep holes. The ground I was digging through was fairly clay-ey, with few stones in it. The main tip I'd give is to frequently pull it out of the ground and use a trowel to clear the threads; this makes turning it much easier because it lessens the friction on the sides of the hole. It makes a 6" diameter hole, which is just right for concrete fence posts. Hold the post in the hole, pour in a litre of water, tip half a bag of post-crete in, add another litre of water, then put the rest of the post-crete in. Amazingly satisfying 🙂

Great customer service from Jade at JCB
My review is more about the exceptional customer service recieved from Jade who was my contact for the seller. Despite the item being dispatched in good time after I ordered, time went by and it was discovered that the courier had lost the item. Jade investigated the issue efficiently and ensured I recieved a replacement within 2 days of it being dispatched again. The item looks very sturdy and am looking forward to making light work of some post holes for my latest garden project. Thank you Jade!
