Watco Butcher Block Oil + Stain | Hazelnut

I went through several products before I tried the Watco Butcher Block Oil Plus Stain in Hazelnut, which I used to stain, finish, and provide a protective layer for a giant butcher block I bought that was not the ideal shade. The result - a beautiful, glossy finish that has resisted water and food stains from several charcuterie and butter board spreads. Couple of things to note: The stain went on very easily with an old T-short used as the rag and dried quickly between coats (less than 24 hours), which made the process relatively easy. The color is rich and vibrant, but it did take me four coats to achieve the desired color, depth, and consistent evenness. However, my board came already stained, so that could be why it took that many coats. While the end result is great, be prepared for multiple applications if you're aiming for a deeper shade. The color pay-off ended being amazing, but it does require a bit more effort.

I used this on my 25inchx9ft butcher block. 2 coats on the back, 3 on the front and it’s nearly completely black. Slight wood grain showing through and it’s perfect. I applied in thin even coats and followed instruction for wait times, sanding, etc. It looks great. It was easy to apply and wasn’t sticky. I noticed if it was drying to fast like under my fan or I layered it then it would stick so don’t try to recoat what was already done. Move in straight lines with the grain. Low odor. Haven’t put it to the test yet since I just finished the counter. Will see how well it works with daily wear.

Great stain, I was surprised how dark it got after a single pass. I do wish it was slightly lighter so a second consistancy pass would not darken excessively.

Work fast and apply thick. I think. I don't know, my project turned out great.... Wife here.... My husband decided to build a bar in our house, like right in the front room. It has been an absolutely insane project. They tore down a wall, put up a fat header and put a butcher block counter top in like a bunch of crazy people. I stained the bar top and holy crap I'm exhausted. But check out the pics cause I'd say it turned out absolutely gorgeous 😍😍😍 Yes I had to open the windows because it smelled really strong for hours. It did not dry quickly, I gave it a full day between coats for a good cure.

I purchased the ebony and was happily surprised and opened the box to no spilled stain. They actually put metall tabbed lockers so it can't be spilled. The directions were easy and the first coat went on easy and looks beautiful as you can see in the picture. The pictures are on a light almost birch like butcher block I plan on doing one more coat since this product is build able. It can be very sheer to pretty much black and comes with buthcer block oil built in so that's a plus.

Color was perfect and the product was very easy to use. My hut her block island looks new!

Beautiful finished, easy to apply, no strong smell
