I added the granules to a 2 gallon bucket of water and let sit for 2 days to make foliar solution. Sprayed the solution on my lime, orange, and lemon trees. Good results.

I've been using this the past few years on a maple tree that seems to have iron deficiency. The tree looks healthier now, so it seems to be working. Product seems okay and the price is good.

Southern Ag's iron granules are a low-cost way to add iron to soil. Given that it is less costly than, for example, liquid chelated iron, it would be nice if Southern Ag would provide some pros-vs-cons advice on their web site. They have a nice web site, where there include a button you you click to bring up a perfectly clear facsimile of the label, not a photograph per se, but evidently the same image used to produce the label. This is very nice, and I wish that certain other fertilizer manufacturers (MiracleGro) would do the same. The iron granules are very strongly acidic. This is possibly due to sulfur, or it could just as easily be due to the use of one of the ionic forms of iron, which can be strongly acidic due to the molecule that includes iron having fewer electrons than the number of electrons needed for electrical neutrality, i.e., fewer total electrons than the total number of protons. The label says that it is obtained or derived from iron sulfate, but this is ambiguous with respect to the question of whether the product contains iron sulfate. There is no way to be certain. If it happens that there is no sulfur, the label should still have a line item "Sulfur .... .1%", or whatever the actual sulfur content is. Because there is no such line item on the label, there is no way to know whether it does or does not contain sulfur. Sulfur is potentially a problem - it will be if your lawn already has too much sulfur. The extreme acidity is also potentially a problem - it will be if the pH of your lawn is already too low. If the pH of the lawn is already below 6.0, I would supplement the use of this with lime. You will need a lot of lime, and while in theory it is possible to do an acid-base calculation to find out how much lime you need to do this, it is a much simpler and more accurate to calculation to calculate the net deficiency of electrons in the iron granules, then calculate how much lime is needed to supply that quantity of lime. In order to be able to do this, the package of iron granules would need to state the particular molecules or iron that are used, i.e., the formulas for the molecules, and state the percentage by mass for each kind of molecule used. I can't think of any reason why this should be difficult to do, and if they were to do this (which is something that most fertilizer manufacturers do), it would be possible to apply the precise quantity of lime to add along with the iron granules, to achieve a balanced pH. This is lack of adequate information is more only complaint with this product.

Great product easy to use. It really helps the plants and they turn from yellow to green in a few days. Just be cautious of spilling on pavement as it will stain.
