This is such a great product! Be aware: the sand in sold separately (I use the Kinetic Sand so there's no mess). The sand box is made of a beautiful wood, with a rich smooth surface and thoughtfully designed rounded edges. Best of all, it has felt on the bottom so that it won't scratch/rub the surface that you put it on. I loved the height of this product as well - it's not so high that it gets in the way of creating, yet it's high enough to keep the sand perfectly contained. The tools are great for adding design. I especially like the knife because it has no sharp edges yet can get in to the circular wooden tool to release the sand (which will stick if you pack it in too hard). I've had this product for a couple of months now and have gotten compliments on it. You can certainly buy less expensive options for holding sand... but this product is worth the extra money due to it's classiness, thoughtful design (no kids getting scratched/poked by sharp edges), and durability. You won't be disappointed!

This is a great gift. I had searched kinetic sand and this one had very good reviews. The sand does hold up well. I purchased this for a 10 year old boy to play alongside his 18 month old niece (who plays with play dough supervised). This is just right for him....no bright girly colors and allows him to play without it seeming babyish. It was a Christmas gift and the grown ups were just as enthralled. I could see this being a great gift for executives, teachers, housewives, ....anyone who just needs a quick play time stress relief. I highly recommend this product. I compared it to all other kinectic sand and this was the best choice for me by far. I love the sand box and simple tools that come with it. The same color sand is also a must to purchase.

Overall nice, but splitting apart at one of the seams. So far holding together. Not leaking sand yet.

I ordered the sand box (came with the wood knife and wood circular cup/mold thing) and a container of this mystery government sand....Long story short, I'm GLAD I had the foresight to get TWO of each (one for each kid). They spent more time playing with this than all their other toys combined, confirming my status as the World's Greatest Uncle. The sand has the consistency of loose cookie dough but with sand in it. It keeps its form like sand at the beach that has been mixed with a little water. The wood that the box and accessories are made with is a sleek looking and feeling wood....A smart looking toy from like "Norland" or something. The seller got it to me fast, and everything was in perfect condition when I got it. And my 2 and 1/2 year old nephew loved it as much as my 6 year old niece. The smooth sanded dull wood shaping knife was safe for either of them to use. I ROCK!

I don't like it, but I am a big enough person to admit that the reason I don't like it is because I don't read everything written in descriptions. I'm click happy and Amazon knows it. Why do you think there is a "buy with one click" option? So, here's the deal. The Sand IS NOT included. This is stated in the description, but I just assumed for the price that it was more than a wooden tray, cup, and knife. So, I ended up paying an extra whatever to get some sand. Even though that was a disappointment, this is the most adult container you will find. The rest are neon plastic. So, if you want this for your desk, it's either this or an old fashioned zen garden. I personally would go with a Bonsai tree, but this was a gift.

This sandbox is brilliant, a must for any kinetic sand mixtures. Only thing is I wish it were a tad bit bigger, but it is quite functional at its size. My kids pay with it daily. Sand does get outside the box but pretty easily cleaned up. Has provided hours and hours of entertainment. Not really sure how you'd play with the sand consistently without the convenience of this sand box.

I ordered this understanding that Brookstone products are a bit spendy, but typically good quality. Boy was I disappointed in this one. It says natural wood finish, and I expected a smooth satin sealed finish, but it is raw rough wood (poplar, I think). I placed in on my kitchen table to find that it rocked from side to side resting on opposite corners. Not exactly the relaxing experience I expected. (wow, that's 4 words with an X in 1 sentence!) This thing is an unpolished turd and is going back for a refund.

This has been the best purchase I have made this year. So much fun! Adults love to visit at our dining room table and play in the sand. Kids get creative and make fun stuff with cookie cutters. One morning I came out to the kitchen to see my name carved in the sand with a heart. So fun! I'm ordering another for my office. Can't wait for my 1st guest to pull up a chair and play while we talk. Great purchase!!
