Brrrrrrr!!
We have a small room of about 120 sq ft that contains 3 PCs which dual function as space heaters. This room already stays fairly warm all on it's own, just to be clear. The PCs simply make the room warmer if not outright hot. This is great in the winter, as we can regulate the room temp by merely opening the window and using a fan or two. However, come late spring, the temps begin to hit 60+ F and higher this room can start becoming unbearable with two or three space heaters running. When the temps are 90 F and over, forget about it. Unless, of course, you're seeking that extra dry sauna experience and don't mind it costing you a new graphics card and possibly a new CPU as well. So we picked up this little bad boy hoping it would assist us in overcoming our desperation by providing the chill we so desire and our poor PCs so desperately need. This little thing is super easy to setup and install. As others have mentioned, depending on your window size, you may need to trim one of the insert pieces. Our windows slide horizontally and the insert was, quite fortunately, just the right size. Had the window been even an inch shorter we would have had to trim the insert extension so that it would not clip the hose. The included foam strips were nice, but a bit thin. You may need to double them up or even get some thicker padding to get a good seal. We waited 24 hours to turn it on but when we did, let me tell you that the tears of joy began to flow like Niagra Falls. With the unit set up and in place, we turned it on. The arctic blast that it produced felt nothing short of amazing. Not miraculous, mind you. Don't expect to keep your snowman best friend alive year round. But it is amazing! I set it to 66 F, let it run for an hour, and then began to stress test my PC to see if the temps would be lower than usual. The answer was filled with happy expletives but it essentially boils down to Yes! Yes it keeps the room and the PCs much cooler. My PC was testing at a minimum 10+ C cooler than before, even after three consecutive stress tests. The AC unit does produce some noise, but we find it more than acceptable given it's ability to keep the room cool. Later on we fired up two of the three PCs and started up a game that we know can push the computer temps up. After an hour of playing, when the room would normally be getting uncomfortable, we were literally just chillin' out and the PCs were running great at well under their usual operating temps. So we have been running this unit almost every evening and sometimes during the day too. Our warmest day has been about 80 F but I have no concerns when it comes to this thing keeping pace at 90 or even 100 F. If I'm wrong, then I will edit my review, but I'm feeling pretty confident that day will not arrive. For now, we are running it at 68 F when we turn it on and it is splendid to say the least. My only real complaint is that the screen on the remote doesn't work properly unless you pinch one corner of the remote down rather hard. Granted, we understand that this is likely a fluke and not indicative of most units. We honestly don't really use the remote so it's largely been a non-issue, but I could see it being a real disappointment and extreme inconvenience for some people, especially if they have mobility challenges. Overall, a great unit though. So do we: like it? Yes! recommend it? Yes! love it? Pretty much yes (but we're not going to marry it.) want a 2nd one for our bedroom? Yes yes yes! Despite the lost stars for the remote, we feel that the unit truly deserves an overall 5 stars as it is easy to set up, easy to operate, and works really well. Will be ordering another of the same (or possibly slightly more powerful) for our bedroom.

Best air conditioner EVER! Completely satisfied
After reading all the reviews I was scared to fork out this chunk of money. But this is by far the best Air conditioner ever! I live in 100 degree weather and my room is ice cold I even need a blanket. This air conditioner isn't noisy at all like reviews say, myair purifier is more loud. I think people really need to understand the BTU per ft. Of the room there trying to cool off. My room is super small and the 8,000 BTU works perfectly my room gets cold as soon as I turn on the air. Iv been using it non stop every day and not once had to empty any water out. I highly recommend this air conditioner it's a complete lifesaver and I'm glad I didn't listen to any of the negative reviews! If you have a damage item please don't review the product. Review the product as the product should be reviewed. Save your complaints for customer service. Buy THIS AIR CONDITIONER ! IT ACTUALLY WORKS GREAT! and I followed directions on letting it sit up right for 24 hours to let the coolant settle and I think that's a must.

Wish it cooled more…
I have a small bedroom where I use this. My previous Black and Decker portable ac unit was the 10,000 btu and it died after 4 summers of use (compressor so not worth fixing). It cooled my room great. This new one is the 8,000. Got it due to a sale price. It does not cool as well as the 10,000 btu unit (expected but my room size is well within the limit). When it gets into the 90’s is when it doesn’t have enough cooling power. The unit never cycles off during warmer days/nights so I worry about how long it will last.

It works, but you aren't gonna like it
So here's the deal, it gets the job done but is still a disappointment. It's incredibly noisy, so much so that I had a headache just sitting next to it for a few hours and wasn't sure in the end if the temperature few degrees higher wouldn't be a better alternative. And that leads me to another point: it's incredibly weak. Like alright, I feel the cold air blowing, but the air stream is thin and narrow, and it won't be enough to cool down even a medium room. With 90 degrees outside it barely managed to keep my room at 80 degrees. Edit: Ok it's still a piece of garbage but here are a few tips to get a slightly better than nothing performance if you're stuck with this unit: 1) Make sure the exhaust hose is tightly attached from all the sides to the unit. In my case there was a slit that I missed at the bottom, and it was leaking hot air in the room 2) It blows a lot of hot air outside via exhaust. It means it takes air out your room, so the room has to replenish it from somewhere. If your window is not tightly sealed, all the hot air it blows out most likely will be sucked back in. So seal it tight, then look around again: where does the air come from now? Ideally you want it to come from the rest of your house where it's (hopefully) not as hot as outside. 3) Keep the hose as short as possible, because it gets hot and serves as a little heater in your room So with all these steps it improved the temp by couple degrees for me, but it's still a far cry from what I expected. Avoid buying it.

Decent for price point
Works well for my bedroom which is on the smaller side, not too loud.

NEW 5000 BTU Model: I actually woke up with a cold.
Keep in mind, many of these reviews are old, and are about an older model. The one you see in the official Amazon picture is what the new model looks like, as well as my own. I have been using this unit for the last month, and no complaints. I actually woke up with a cold. Its great for cooling small to medium sized rooms. Not that it cant cool bigger rooms, but the temperature wont get nearly as low. At 94 degrees outside, keeps my small room cooled to about 70-73 degrees. This is on the 2nd floor. Just make sure you have some duct tape, or maybe electrical tape, for the part of the exhaust hose that connects to the unit. Its very loosely connected. (Not the small evaporator hose) Using electrical tape to cover micro openings can really make a difference in the room. Not gonna knock a star off for it, because its a very easy fix. Tape and done. Also, if your room door has an opening at the bottom, make sure to stuff a towel under it to keep the cool air in. Otherwise, the air will slowly seep out into the rest of house house, reducing it's overall cooling efficiency for the given room. Don't rush the installation on the window bracket and hose. Make sure you properly insulate where you feel might be a problem, such as an oddly bent window frame and such. This units cool very well when setup properly. Don't forget to attach the smaller evaporate hose too. I drilled a hole in my window bracket to drain the unit outside. Only do this if you have experience with drills and such, otherwise make sure you have a small bucket for the water to pour into over time. Hope this helped!

Ehh, it should be better really. Temp sensor lacking majorly.
Blows cold air, yet hose is non-insulated so it is always fighting against heat coming off the hose. Unit itself has a hot spot, so more area for heat to come off of. Lacking insulation of hose which is an easy fix that should be a standard included item with all portables in my opinion. For unit heat, I may eventually open and see if adding aluminum to the case can help on this issue. Biggest complaint: temperature sensor seems poorly programmed or faulty from new... Example: set temp to 75 and AC will sometimes continue on when room temp is below 70 and other times it will be 80+ and not turning on. To note: unit has good airflow around it, even a fan on circulating the air does not seem to fix the faulty sensor. Big complaint of this temperature sensor is you must manually adjust the AC several times per night for example, which waking up with 80+ temps is certainly not great, nor is waking up and your AC was left running excessively and are cold and out of money spent on the electricity that wasn't needed! Second minor complaint; since new, has a loud thud sound when the compressor shuts off, but not always... I've never had window units do this, so I'm not sure if this is typical of portable AC units for some reason, as I don't have another portable AC to compare this to. Conclusion: I'd avoid this unit unless the price is exceptional and then plan on buying at least a hose insulator if you mind the cost of the electricity. Light sleepers may want to avoid this unit if for bedroom use.

Too Noisy
I bought this unit for our bedroom because it seemed to be a good value and we didn't need something too powerful. It cools effectively but it is NOISY as hell. My girlfriend and I sleep with earplugs when we use it because it's so loud. My roommate living in the room below me has complained about the noise too. DON'T BUY this for a bedroom unless you like sleeping with earplugs.
