Would 4 year olds like this toy?

My grandaughter is 3 1/2 and enjoy's this toy for a short while....my 2 1/2 year old grandaughter loves it. However, the favorite for the older child is the Remote Control RC Turbo Twisters Stunt Car with Music and Light by MochoHome (still available on Amazon). This car is perfect for a 4 year old if you can stand the noisy music (which is part of what makes it appealing). It has all kinds of crazy moves with lights and loud music. Unfortunately when I purchased it there was no volume control but maybe there is now. My granddaughter was just weeks over 3 years old at the time and it only took a few minutes for her to get the hang of it. I highly recommend the latter for a 4 year old. However, the advantage of the Pack of 2 cars is that they each have a different frequency on which they operate so the kids can race them and they don't interfere with each other.

How durable are these cars? I have 3 stairs that lead from kitchen to livingroom and I just know the kids would drive the cars over the stairs a lot.

My kids have the racecar only. It frequently falls off tables and down 6+ stairs. The only issue was the antenna pushed in and blocks the wheels internally, pull it out and it clips back in until it tumbles down the stairs again. Wondefully durable.

Do they turn or just go forward and back

They have 2 buttons, forward and reverse/left. The cars go straight forward and back up while turning (so its easy to change directions but not too many buttons). I hope that makes sense.

is there an off button on the controller?

Not on the controller but on the cars themselves
