how much would it take to clean a really filthy 1200 sq. ft. house, walls and ceilings?

The bottle reads, "1/3 of a bottle to 1-gallon water", to prepare for painting (less for general cleaning). Recommend buying two bottles. My 1st bottle just arrived, and I expect to purchase another to get the nicotine off the walls (of same size house).

Can I use this to clean walls not repaint them?

Good cleaning power

I diluted it with water as instructed, and cleaned my walls prior to painting. It's a bit expensive but worked great, even washed off some of the old paint in some areas. Will use the remaining for tough to clean spots around the house.
