A Real Game changer!

I've never worked with plumbing until recently. I've done several successfully on my 1955 home using sharkbite products. It's amazingly easy to use and cost effective. You can use it on copper or pex or to connect the two together. You can also use it to connect a straight pipe to a screw on connector. You can get shark bite bite on and off valves as well. I suggest that you check around for pricing. They vary wildly on different sites and stores. I also strongly suggest that if you are a new to the use of this product and or plumbing that you visit YouTube and watch some of the DIY videos related to your project. There are numerous videos available by both professionals and DIY's. Believe me, you will feel much more confident after you watch one or more of these videos. The sharkbite product has held well according to studies and the few that failed were thought to be due to burrs. To deburr your pipe use a deburring product on the end of each pipe or use sand paper or a nail file to sand until the end is smooth. Also the sharkbite must be inserted to the proper depth. Videos will show you how to do this simple step. You can also choose to insert a shut off valve which may come in handy in the future at relevant sites. Pex is supposed to be superior to copper. I have found that pex is very cheap, easy to work with, and useful for patches. There are different kinds of pex. Pex A and pex B are what you will usually see available. Pex A is more flexible and expands, it is freeze resistant. You should use this if you live in a cold climate. It is also easier to use for small patches, like a few feet or less. I haven't seen Pex A for sale on Amazon but I've seen it at the local hardware and on ebay. Pex B is stiffer and harder to bend or straighten however warming it up helps. If you are using pex be sure to use the proper type particularly around hot water heaters.Hope that helps! Good luck on your project!

Excellent product

I’ve used shark bite products before. They have always performed well. This time is no different. They are my preferred way of dealing with plumbing.

Exactly as expected

I had a leak in my copper pipes at our old lake cabin from this past winter. I ended up replacing the copper pipe in that area with PEX which this fit perfectly on both the PEX end and the copper end. Super easy to get set up!

easy to use, doesn't leak

Long ago when I first tried using SharkBite connectors I had my doubts about them, I mean really a push on connector that won't leak? But it's true. I don't know how much easier doing plumbing can be. I've used the PEX copper ring crimp on connectors and in tight spaces getting the crimp tool in there can be difficult and even make poor crimps and have to redo them. With any SharkBite push to connect that isn't a problem. You simply push them on and job done with no leaks. I have some that are over ten years old and still no problems or leaks. I just installed a water softener system and had to remove a couple of the push on connector which was done using the SharkBite removal tool and was able to reuse those fitting... and still no leaks from them.

10 minute repair without special tools

It was necessary to fix a hot water line that was installed 35 years ago. My normal fix would be to take the fittings apart and re-sweat them. The problem is that the fittings I purchased in 2023 are larger diameter than the pipe of 1998. I had used shark bite products when installing toilet valves and a pipe repair in the past successfully but didn't want to spend the money on one this time. After multiple attempts to sweat connectors and creating solder blobs inside of the pipe I decided to spring for shark bites. Yes they are pricey but the are very easy to use and I have yet to have one leak. One important suggestion is that the cut on the pipe must be cut "square" and the cut de-burred. The pipe also needs to be round and smooth. I used emory cloth just to make sure that the surface of the pipe was clean and smooth. Sandpaper will work just as well. Push the pipe into the shark bite, let go, and then push it in again hard. Rest easy that the thing isn't going to leak at the sharkbite joint. At least that's my experience. Oh, btw my nephew is a plumber and he swears by these things for repairs.

They really work well!

A copper pipe leading to my water heater sprung a pinhole leak. I'm no plumber but I also didn't want to pay through the nose for one to come and fix it. I cut out some of the copper pipe and replaced it with oex with this sharkbite connecting the oex to the copper pipe. Honestly, it's so easy. Push the lex into the sharkbite on one end, push it into the copper on the other. It's been months and no problems at all! I've used sharkbite in the past, some years ago and they are still going strong!
