Beautiful, sturdy, hard to put together at first but well worth the effort

Birds are building nests in very inconvenient locations very close to my house so I wanted a humane and pretty way to keep them at bay. I will say, the included instructions are not helpful. The installation video was helpful for a moment but not when I couldn’t figure out why my pinwheels didn’t spin. The video is also way too fast paced. It took me an hour to put them together (because of troubleshooting…and taking them apart and putting them back together again, four times before figuring out how to actually put them together AND have them spin). But, hopefully my instructions will help those of you who are struggling to put such a simple-looking item together. I really never thought I would have to post instructions for putting a pinwheel together but here it goes. Photos should correlate with each step. 1. Lay out one full pinwheel set 2. Start by inserting a section of pinwheel flap over the small hollow connector. The very important key here is to make sure the SLIM end is facing the OUTSIDE. the WIDE end should be facing the INSIDE. 3. Continue layering each pinwheel flap on top of the previous flap over the SLIM side. 4. You have completed the difficult part. Pat yourself on the back. 5. Put the decorative circular cover over top of the SLIM side to cover the pinwheel flap layers. I chose the silver color but it is reversible with a star on the other side. 6. Insert the white arm through the back of the pinwheel and into the WIDE part of the connector. 7. It will be difficult to push the arm into the wide connector but continue pushing until you hear a CLICK. Yes, it will click. If it has not clicked, it has not been secured properly and will not spin. 8. You are done! Reward yourself for your patience. I could only make 9 pinwheels because I was missing one connector. I was able to tape the pinwheel sections together and get by without the connector. It still spins, but not as well as the ones with connectors. I will say that the durability seems pretty good as I had to take them apart multiple times and put them back together to fix my mistakes. Nothing ripped which was impressive. If you do not mind spending a little bit of time to put them together, I would say buy them. If you have arthritis in your hands or difficulty using fine motor skills, just buy them at the dollar store instead. I really only bought these for the patriotic pattern.

These pinwheels were very hard to assemble. The holes in the pinwheel blades were a lot smaller than the rod that they were made to fit on. You have to force them on and some people might not be able to do that. Also, I asked Amazon's A.I. service if the pinwheels swivel and it said that they did, but unfortunately they don't swivel. So the wind has to blow in the same direction as the pinwheels are facing or they will not spin. Other than that, they look okay and they would probably deter birds or squirrels from digging in your potted plants or flower beds. But, the next time that I buy pinwheels, I will make sure that they are already assembled and that they have the ability to swivel.

These were easy to assemble but even after several attempts of assembling/disassembling/reassembling I could not get them to actually spin. They are highly reflective and are working somewhat to keep bird away from my garden and patio but if they don't spin they are just reflectors.

So cute the stick is not very long, but it is still good enough and I also like it for my granddaughter so she can hold it up in the wind very sturdy easy to put together. Reminds me of my own childhood in Germany.

Update: added a star because they didn’t break being shoved in the ground and all spun without issue The instruction pictures are just not good even though they are printed in color etc. I did the first one backwards following them. Fiddled with it and attached a picture the large end just pops through the back hole, the pinwheel will extend to the back of the pole piece the connector connects to. The material is nice and hasn’t ripped shoving them over the connector. Bright and sparkly!!

Do not buy these unless you have at least 30 minutes to spend understanding the instructions which are not good and then meticulously trying to put these together by hand. My fingers were barely able to manipulate these small pieces. They need to be very explicit and show a picture that these are not assembled and that it’s going to take you a long time to assemble them. The initial disappointment when opening the box and seeing what’s inside is real. Other than that when you get them put together, I did like them and I think they will be effective in my garden. Considering the cost, it is probably worth it as long as you know it’s going to take a bit of effort to get these put together. I also think the manufacturer needs to listen very hard and create some much more detailed instructions with better pictures and diagrams on how to assemble these

Put a few of these amongst newly planted seedlings & they seem to be working at keeping the birds away from them.
