Lovely and tasty
These tins are great. The contents taste lovely & I'm a fan of the tomato sauce. A perfect way to get some protein & assorted goodness into your diet.

Tasty but....
If you're into tinned mackerel this is one of the best examples. It's a shame mackerel is entering the tuna-zone and becoming less and less acceptable to eat sadly but when you see the size of those factory trawlers what chances do the fish have?

Expensive but good
Nice flavour great on toast for breakfast but stupidly expensive hence only 4*

Much better than the varieties in sauce - not at all hot though.
Sometimes this is much cheaper in the supermarket but mostly it is more expensive. This is tasty and if required can easily be drained - unlike the gooey sauce style varieties. It is very rare to find a bone and the quality is consistently good. Great for a high protein snack straight from the tin or even as a topping for a plate of rice. Keeps for ever so a great standby. Once in a blue moon it can be had for under a pound at Tesco but is often one pound and forty pence. Only the Tesco version in extra virgin olive oil is anywhere near as good.

I'm a convert
I never used to be very keen on mackerel. But being over 50 and wanting to build some muscle I decided that it would be good to have different protein sources around the house, including cans of fish that can quickly be added to some wholegrain toast. These mackerels are amazing, and it turned out that the only thing required to make them palatable to me is the added tomato sauce. Absolutely perfect for my workout training!
