I ordered this kit after expanding my bee yard. In the past I had painted my hives but wanted to see how the wax coating held up. The kit arrived and setup was easy and straightforward. This is the standard langstroth sized kit. The wax didn’t have any strange smells which would upset the bees. The kit contained all the pieces to assemble the frames which are held in by small nails. I used glue to secure the frames together as well. I have used this kit for one bee season and it’s held up well. The wax coating doesn’t show any sign of weathering and the frames are ready to be used again. This kit is a tremendous value if you don’t mind assembling it yourself.

I have wanted a bees wax dipped hive for awhile, the rest of mine are painted white. I have always enjoyed the natural look. After looking at several hives I chose this one because it had the pre drilled screw holes. Having never put one together before I wanted to know exactly where I should have screws. This was a great hive to start with in building them myself because in the past I have always bought assembled. It went together easily and the only thing I had to buy was wood glue. Other hives often need to have screws and nailed purchased to put together. It is great quality and I love the dove tail joints. If I can put this hive together then anyone can do it. The only negative was a small one. I believe that they burn their logo into the wood after it has been dipped. It left some bare spots without wax (see my second picture). I fixed this by melting some additional wax that I already had into these spots. I will definitely buying additional hives and boxes in the future.

Well made, easy to assemble, fits together perfectly. I love that all the parts for the hive are wax dipped. It looks great! Now we have to wait till spring to see if the bees like it!

Easy assembly, but needs a couple additions. 1. When nailing things together, get wood glue to make it last years longer. 2. For the frames, the top lip that the frame hangs from needs one additional nail below the lip. All othet nails are vertical and it needs glue plus a horizontal nail on each side to prevent the top frame bar from popping off when it gets weighed down with honey. Less important on the brooder box because you shouldn't be moving those frame frequently. 3. The frames need wires for extra support or side support pins to keep the preformed wax frame straight. Moderate heat once the frames are outside will make the wax frame warp, and wires or pins will lock them in place. A warped wax frame will make the bees build irregular depths of comb, and the will underutilize the hive. Or you may have a comb built so irregular that you can no longer remove the honey, or it tears the wax frame off the wood frame. 4. The vertical frame wood supports are flat on the vertical surface. They used to be made so one side is flat, and the neighboring frame was a point. It reduced the contact area between adjacent frames. If neighbor frames have a completely flat surface between them and they can't be separated enough (which the won't inside a hive), the bees will literally weld those two frames together with propolis. So you're gonna be lifting 2, 3, or more frames at once and have to ory them apart. If one edge of the vertical support is beveled, it alleviates that problem. 5. More preference, but a metal queen excluder would be better than the plastic ones. Plastic edges tend to wear on the wings of the worker bees.

Excellent quality, easy to assemble and holds up well in the heat or rain. You won't regret this purchase! Its a great value and works perfectly as far as frames fitting perfectly. I love the natural color and the wood doesn't smell or scare the bees.

We're new beekeepers and recently purchased some hives to prepare for the arrival of our nucs in a few months. These hives seem to me to be good quality. I did have a couple pieces that were damaged in shipping. I contacted MayBee with pics. They replied very quickly and offered to send me replacement pieces, which arrived within a week. Great customer service👍 I will definitely be doing more business with them. Very happy with my hives 🐝🛖💝

Being a second time return to purchase a beehive box says it all. The assembly was easy because all of the components are provided. Yes, I can recommend this product with the added suggestion that you know how to handle a colony or swarm of bees awhile implementing his fantastic utility or have someone that does help you. Bee safe, bee calm and behave!
