5-Minute Sketching -- People: Super-Quick Techniques for Amazing Drawings

Nice book, easy to follow sketching for illustrations to support a story

I bought all three books in this series, I think the author does a good job of teaching quick sketching as well as 5 minute sketching. I disagree politely with those that say beginners can’t use these books. It’s also got a lot of tips for advanced artists who may want to try to simplify their work and try something new I have started a 5 minute sketch club and it was based on these books. Many of the people are new to sketching and these books have been very helpful in learning techniques and a place to start. They also show a huge range of styles, encouraging people who don’t draw ‘conventionally’ to draw in a way that suits them. These books are good at breaking things down to the basic building blocks of art. I didn’t find that much overlap in them, I think a master book containing all of the series would be a cool idea if it wasn’t overpriced. Maybe for beginners without other people around it can be daunting to just pick up a pencil or other medium and start drawing. The 5 min sketching is good to get going and to quell your inner critic. Just draw! Great tips on fast textures, using charcoal, drawing crowds etc it’s a lot of fun!

Excellent and Inspiring. I bought this book for myself and liked it so much I bought another for an artist friend as a Christmas gift.

I was really hesitant to buy this book - twenty bucks is a lot of money for me. But after reading the reviews, I was convinced that it would be worth the price of admission. I'm a "shade tree" artist and love to "urban sketch" people when I'm out and about. I'm being treated for breast cancer and spend a lot of time in doctor's offices and in the chemo chair - perfect for people sketching. This book is so specific for what I do (and what I was looking for) that I don't regret spending the twenty bucks one little bit. Excellent explanations and examples, I can see myself referring to it until it falls apart. Pete Scully seems to have known exactly what I was looking for, and presented it in a way that I can immediately apply it to my sketching. It's kinda cool to start seeing results right away. Like I said, worth the price of admission.
