KEY BENEFIT : Widely acclaimed both in the U.S. and abroad, this reader-friendly yet authoritative volume bridges the gap between circuits and new electromagnetics material. Ulaby begins coverage with transmission lines, leading readers from familiar concepts into more advanced topics and applications. KEY TOPICS : Introduction: Waves and Phasors; Transmission Lines; Vector Analysis; Electrostatics; Magnetostatics; Maxwell's Equations for Time-Varying Fields; Plane-Wave Propagation; Reflection, Transmission, and Waveguides; Radiation and Antennas; Satellite Communication Systems and Radar Sensors. MARKET : A useful reference for engineers. Review: Clear, simple, and very understandable. - This is not only one of the best Emag text books I have used but one of the best text books, period. As an electrical engineering major, seeing this material for the first time, this textbook was perfect. Just enough theory without drowning you with endless derivations and useless background information. "Just the facts" The explanations were easy to follow and the example problems very helpful. I have noticed several negative reviews of this book. Whether or not you like this book basically comes down to what type of student you are. If you are an EE who is taking an introductory course and doesn't need endless, super in depth (i.e. confusing) explanations of every minutia of the subject, then this book is perfect. If you are a physics or math major who enjoys endlessly pondering the finer mathematical points of electromagnetism for 27 hours a day, then there are probably better textbooks out there. If you are doing your PhD dissertation in an abstract, theoretical, highly focused area of Emag, again, there are more in depth textbooks for you to use. Review: I am fortunate enough to have taken classes with Dr - I am fortunate enough to have taken classes with Dr. Ulbay. He is without a doubt the finest professor anywhere. While I didn't get to take the course for this book with him, I found having his book very helpful. It does a great job explaining concepts and providing examples. Also the applets which are available online now that go with the book are fantastic and really help illustrate the concepts.

Good book
The book is very detailed and in depth with a lot of graphs, pictures, diagrams, and equations. But they also try to make it simple for you by giving you the equations you really need to know at the end of each chapter before the Problems section of each chapter. Also, the "Technology Briefs" are interesting and making the math more real to the layman.

Ok, not great
I got this book for a semester, and as it turned out the professor wanted to use a different one, and I think that was a good choice, I think the other explained things more clearly in English before jumping into equations. I would sometimes check back to see what this book had to say, and some things helped, but for the most part this book wasn't as helpful.

It is a good book for that
I bought this book as a reference book so that I could refresh my memory on wave electromagnetics. It is a good book for that. It is very well laid out and easy to find the section that you need.

it's a waste of time if you are just starting out
Don't buy it, it's a waste of time if you are just starting out. Awkward notation, too many pictures, not enough explanation... just don't buy it, even if it's required. I ended up going with the tried and true David K. Cheng - Field and Wave Electromagnetics. That one is excellent!

I lived in this textbook during Emag
I particularly found this textbook useful. Emag isn't an easy topic. This book was more useful than the professor. The class is mostly just Maxwell's Eq'ns, and then 500 pages of special cases.

Applied Electromagnetics

Just Amazing
It is a good reference with respect to the practical applicability. Several numerical examples are given which facilitate the understanding. It can be used by Under graduation courses as for Post Graduate courses.

Excellent introductory book. Very well written and illustrated. A must for undergraduate level electromagnetics.
I ordered this book through Amazon, and the seller was "luzbook". The book never arrived so Amazon refunded the whole amount that I paid for this book. I later purchased this book from another online bookseller. It is an excellent introductory book for third year undergraduate electrical engineering electromagnetics. Book is very well written and illustrated which made the book very easy to read and understand for students who are new to electromagnetics. Text is well spaced and well highlighted to make reading quite a pleasant experience.Chapter three offers excellent coverage on Vector Analysis which provides a very good resource for brushing up second year engineering calculus which is an essential tool for electromagnetics and tends to get rusty for most third year electrical engineering undergraduate students. This book is a must for all electrical engineering undergraduate students, and I invite all teaching professionals to seriously consider this book as their third year electromagnetics textbook.

Buy the real edition, the paper back sucks. I paid to return it
