The squares are slightly less than 12” long & wide (11.75”) so 32 of the 9-piece bundles or 288 squares would cover the space leaving approximately 1.5” gap around the perimeter

Are they raised off the ground at all? Will they let water pass under them?

Yes water passes under/through them. They survived IRMA!! We have an area which was grass, but shaded and didn't do well. We covered with weed block fabric and put them on top of the fabric.
