Great product for muscle protein synthesis and recovery
I was very impressed with the results of using Nutricost Unflavored L-Leucine. I started using it as part of recovery from knee replacement surgery. It claims it provides benefits in muscle protein synthesis and recovery and I certainly experienced that as well as improvements in other muscle groups. As an older adult I am concerned with retaining strength and I think this product helps with that goal. I use it in my smoothies and in milk I mix in with my cereal. It mixes well and easily. and do not notice any altering of taste. However, when in a hurry and I use it just mixed in water it does have a slightly bitter taste but certainly something I can live with.

Brutal Taste, Beautiful Gains โ Worth Every Grimace
TL;DR: Tastes like burnt coffee beans and regret, but if you want real muscle retention and recovery, this stuff works. I mix it post-workout with creatine and 16 oz of water. Itโs pure, effective, and worth the grimace. Suck it up, buttercup. Letโs get one thing straight: this stuff tastes like burnt coffee beans had a bitter divorce with a charred tireโand somehow they both lost custody. If youโre expecting a tropical fruit flavor, walk away. But if youโre chasing real results and not some sugar-coated placebo, Nutricostโs L-Leucine delivers. I drink this post-workout, mixing one scoop with creatine and about 16 oz of water. Taste-wise? Itโs rough. But it mixes well, no clumps, and hits your system like a freight train full of gains. Suck it up, buttercupโthe results are worth the momentary mouth punishment. Now letโs talk results: faster recovery, better muscle retention (especially cutting), and noticeable post-lift performance improvements. Leucine is the MVP of BCAAs for muscle protein synthesis, and this pure, no-BS version nails it. Bonus: no fillers, no weird additives, just pure leucine doing exactly what you want it to doโhelping you hang onto hard-earned muscle like it owes you money. Taste is a 2/10. Results? 10/10. You donโt buy this for a spa dayโyou buy it because it works.

Game changer
I'm in my 60s. I've been taking creatine, TMG, HMB, AKG, and you name it for years, but had gotten kind of stuck, as far as muscle growth. I noticed an immediate difference when I started taking this twice per day (I understand it's ok to take up to 15g per day). It tastes horrible, but it works. Despite the taste, I prefer the powder form to avoid fillers and such. Clumping is minimal and doesn't happen until I'm near the bottom of the jar. It dissolves quickly in water. I just mix it with the rest of my stack and throw it back. This is now a permanent part of my stack.

Nutricost Pure L-Leucine Powder 500 Grams
Yes the odor is bad and the taste is awful, but looking up all the data, you will find this is normal for an unflavored ultra-fine amino powder. Hopefully the purity is accurate. We take this for a specific health or training benefit, not as a refreshing tasty beverage. People need to stop whining so much.

Makes a big difference, but method and consistency is key
I'm 64 and wasn't getting the results from resistance training that have in the past. Upped my protein intake and supplementation with no noticeable difference. Started supplementing with leucine, BCAAs, and HMB and muscle mass increased significantly after 4-6 weeks of consistent training and supplementation. Leucine should be taken on an empty stomach to maximize assimilation. I mix leucine and HMB with an ounce or two of water using a spoon to mix and press clumps against the glass to break it up, and then shoot the mixture followed by two glasses of water. Taste is not an issue if consumed in this manner. I do that in the AM upon waking, 30 minutes prior to consuming pre-work out protein shake w/BCAAs, and immediately after working out, waiting about 45 minutes before consuming post-workout meal w/BCAA supplementation. I also supplement with BCAAs (using same method) prior to bedtime before eating a half cup of cottage cheese. I've lifted weights my entire life and I've been able to put on more muscle mass with this supplementation routine at 65, than I did as a younger man without it. I'm sold.

Tastes like burnt dog doo, works great!
Smells like terrible cheese and a toot, and has a strong after taste of bitter burnt coffee grounds, but mixed with Sunny D itโs really not bad. Seems to work well for being the most important of the BCAA stack. Iโll order again for sure.

Trying Leucine for muscle building
First thing I think is important to know is that this stuff tastes BAD! I am talking very bad, and I can tolerate most Bads, but this is the worst Iโve come upon so far. I will definitely be switching to capsules next time. As to the product itself, I trust Nutricost so believe it will do what it is supposed to do. The powder is finer than any other of their powders I have gotten. It is very much like a fine babyโs talcum powder. Itโs easy to measure with the enclosed scoop, and mixes as well as any other powder I have. I put this, and a few others into a small amount of lemonade, stir briskly till mixed, then gulp it down followed by a glass of Whey protein. Yucky, but doable. If your doctor has recommended Leucine, or youโve decided to try it yourself, here you go. Points off of five only for the taste. I do believe in Nutricost products.
