Kill 'Em All (180g Vinyl) YAHTZEE!!!!!!!
Having bought and reviewed vinyl reissues of Lightning and Puppets I decided to pick up Kill 'Em All as well. It is Phenominal, buy it!!! I will now compare it to the previous Kill 'EM All reissue also on Metallica's own Blackened label that I purchased a couple years ago: This new one has better volume overall, much better bass, the guitars are more forward in the mix, but most importantly, IT IS A WAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER PRESSING in terms of clarity and MUCH lower background noise. I have a great CD version (not sure the year) and this new pressing stomps the pig poop out of all other variants I've personally heard. As far as I'm concerned, this is the one to buy with a ridiculous low price it's even better! I have not heard an original vinyl pressing but I cannot fathom it sounding this good just by what I've heard from those who have. Man this is friggin awesome and I quote "Bass solo take one" and apparently Cliff nailed it lol : ) I'm not a die hard Metallica guy. I'm a fan, but not a fanatic like I am with Megadeth, but I do have all their albums on CD, every DVD and Bluray they've ever put out and I like their music from all periods. First and foremost I'm a lover of Thrash Metal and this is without a doubt my all time favorite Metallica album, and so it brings me great pleasure to be able to recommend this new pressing to others who know what an incredible album this is, and to those who will continue to discover it for many years to come Now since Amazon doesn't make enough money to pay someone to separate reviews for separate products, here's my review of the new remastered $5 CD: The packaging is sucks! Most digipacks do suck, but this little vinyl replica style "case" a.k.a. "Terd Ferguson wallet" is ridiculous from a fans and collectors point of view. It kinda screams we want to make every penny we can, or we hate our fans and have no respect for them. Place it on a table it stays popped open. Near zero protection for the disc from dust or scratching. This album deserves better. Metallica has made 500 trillion dollars, throw us a jewel case or a proper digipack with a tray and a lid that closes. Rant off!

A decent, cheap remaster.
It retains most of the dynamic range and sounds about the same to be honest. I can hardly tell the difference in places. I wouldn't say this album is a super classic or anything, but it has its moments. The packaging is weird, and I honestly thought they shipped me the 80s CD in a new digipack. But I was paying for the remastered version. And of course there is a tiny little snippet in the ultra cheap booklet that tells you Howie Weinberg remastered it. Well then, I was wrong. Sorry for sending the first one back to Amazon lol. But these have to be the most barebones remasters I have ever bought. I guess the price reflects that. The digipack is nice enough I guess. And make sure you are buying the 2016 version for the first two albums. The CDs however are not even painted. That has to be a first among the hundreds of remasters I have. The booklet is nothing but a couple pages with lyrics almost exactly like the original 80s disc. But it is what it is. I highly recommend anyone to get these new remasters to hear what Metallica was all about in the 80s. This is my least favorite of their early albums, but it still has a couple great tracks. All of these old albums really need a remix though. They still sound pretty flat. But still very acceptable for sure.

Why even ask?
This is Metallica's first album. So many reviews have been written by far more talented and prosaically masterful critics than this, my own humble analysis, and it pales in comparison. Metallica is the greatest Metal band that has ever existed, and despite their early loss of their bassist and friend Cliff Burton, may he rest in peace, they went on to create albums that can at once touch the core of your soul, and rip your face off simultaneously. No other foreman can achieve the instrumental mastery, or match the lyrical genius of James Hetfield. No other musician can play a six minute solo that is absolutely, frenetically, wild at tendon-tearing speeds and produce the same beauty and heartfelt emotion like Kirk Hammett; and when it comes to Lars Ulrich, suffice it to say that he defined the Rhythm and Tempo of Metal making Ulrich the beating heart of Metal itself. Jason Newstead would come to fill the gaping hole that Burton's untimely death would gouge and while no one could replace Burton, Newstead's vitality would patch the hole and he would serve with honor until his willful discharge years later. When the call went out for a new bassist, Robert Trujillo would answer the call and no one can say that he does not add to the ferocity and sheer electricity of Metallica's stage presence. A long story short, this is Metallica's first album, aptly named Kill 'Em All because that is exactly what it did, it knocked the fans and the critics dead, and left the now deaf and blind headbangers looking for their dismembered body parts. This album is radically different from their ensuing compilations, more raw, and with a definite punk undertone, it will make you want to get out of your seat and smash your face through a concrete wall. All Hail Metallica and everyone else can suck it.

A great start to a legendary career
Flawless. Been waiting for the price to drop a little before adding this to my collection, $40 CAD for a single disc vinyl isn’t exactly good value, but I caught it at a reduced price by chance one day. The remaster sounds great on my setup, the best I’ve heard the record sound- the songs speak for themselves, absolute classics that hold up. Hit The Lights/Four Horsemen/Motorbreath/No Remorse/Whiplash/Seek/Anesthesia….I just realized I was going to type out every single song on the record. They’re all bangers! Don’t be put off that it’s Metallica’s first record and production/vocals aren’t up to par, these songs absolutely rule.
