desertcart.com: BoBo Loves Dumplings (A Bilingual Dual Language Counting Book for Children, Kids, and Babies Written in Chinese, English, and PinYin) (Mandarin Chinese Edition): 9781734750904: Melissa Miao, Charlotte Cheng: Books Review: Must-have for beginner Mandarin learners - I don't have kids yet but I have been trying to brush up on my (very elementary) Mandarin skills. As part of that effort, I have purchased my fair share of Mandarin-language children's books that have simple sentences as a way to practice my tones. BoBo Loves Dumpings is a great addition to my collection thanks to the combination of pinyin, Simplified Chinese, and English all on the same page. I also appreciate that the authors tried to utilize a wide variety of measure words and time phrases (then, next, last), which makes it more interesting and educational than your average kid's Mandarin book. Finally, the illustrations are also fantastic - they are adorable and eye-catching! I've already recommended this book to all my friends with young kids! Review: Super cute, functional and fun learning - I bought this for a 5 year old, and it was loved by both child and parents. It's such a colorful, cute, and fun way to learn some Mandarin Chinese, with basic numbers, food and practical phrases. Cover and pages are glossy hard cardstock, so pages can't be torn by a destructive younger sibling, haha. It is highly appropriate for a range of ages; my friend's child loved the main character, Bobo, who is adorable and engaging.

Great educational tool
It's a cute and short bedtime story to read to a toddler. My kid loved it. It's very readable in both Chinese and English (my Mandarin pronunciation is dreadful so sometimes my wife and I take turns reading the Chinese and English versions). On the Chinese side, you get some nice exposure to numbers and measure words, in addition to food itself.

Wonderful book for teaching Mandarin to 4-6 yr. old children!
I am homeschooling my daughter for kindergarten, and this book is perfect for teaching her how to read Mandarin and English! First, the illustrations are vivid and delightful, featuring a hungry red panda as protagonist, which is native to China. Second, the Chinese and English text highlights a lot of high frequency characters and words. I also appreciated how the authors varied transition words in Chinese and use measurement/counting words for different items, e.g. pieces of tofu or slices of watermelon. Lastly, since I am a very rusty heritage speaker, the pin yin is super helpful. In conclusion, this was an excellent educational purchase, and I hope the authors continue to write more books about Bobo!

Great mandarin - English book with pinyin !
I've come to appreciate that it is really hard to make a good children's book. This one hits the nail on the head. The text and illustrations are perfect. There's not too much text per page for my 2 year old (a common problem with other educational books), and the phrases strike the right combination of interesting to read but repetitive for reinforcement. The length is perfect and it ends with the panda napping...presumably food coma from all he ate. The illustrations are cute, the choice of vocabulary is spot on, and my son loves it ! We got a few mandarin / english books that day and this is his favorite. Bonus that all pages are cardboard.

Amazing Chinese children's book -- perfect for parents to read with kids in Mandarin or English
My niece is six years old and struggles with Mandarin. Her parents have tried engaging her with multiple Chinese books, but she found these other Chinese children's books to be bland and uninteresting. Then we read BoBo to her, and now she's hooked on Chinese. Using food as a hook is pure genius. Kids love food. The charming storyline and whimsical illustrations keep her captivated throughout, which makes this uncle a tad jealous because my magic tricks lose her attention after 10 seconds. In fact, she loves BoBo so much, she asked for a toy version of BoBo and wondered if she could watch BoBo on Disney Plus. Needless to say, BoBo is now part of her nightly bedtime routine. Also needless to say, I'm hoping BoBo doesn't become so big that I need to shell out $100 for a stuffed toy. From an adult perspective, my favorite part of this kids book is how all lines are in Mandarin, pinyin, and English. I can efficiently teach all three at once. Couldn't recommend this book more.

Beautiful bilingual board book!
As an ABC (American Born Chinese), I’m always on the lookout for Chinese/English books that I can enjoy with my little one. So glad that I purchased this book, she loves it! She instantly picked it up and dropped it into my lap for me to read to her. The pictures are vibrant and the book is durable, which is important when you have a 13-month old that tends to chew on everything. :) We’ve only had it for a day and have already read it several times, alternating between Chinese and English. It’s also been a great way for me to brush up on my Chinese! ;)

Wish there were more!!!
The BoBo series of books are by far our FAVORITE bedtime books for my infant son. I wish there were tons more of them! The quality of the board books is excellent, the illustrations are perfect for catching the eye of a baby and the way the stories are written really help teach a child both languages. The fact there is alphabetized PinYin is so helpful for those of us who don’t really read or write Chinese well. I highly recommend this for anyone planning to teach their baby both English and Chinese.
