I had my doubts that these balloons would work but ...
I had my doubts that these balloons would work but my wife and I have been quite surprised at the success. We have an uncovered back patio with large trees that attract many birds. Normally, I have to keep our patio furniture covered to keep the mess from the birds from piling up on our table and chairs. Typically, the furniture becomes completely covered in bird droppings within 1-2 days and have to be hosed off, sometimes with a pressure washer. Two weeks ago I put up two of the three balloons I received into my trees directly above the furniture at approximately 25 feet high. They worked immediately! I noticed the birds hanging out in my neighbors' trees, then some would land in my trees but only stay for 10-15 seconds and then fly away. We also noticed that in the morning there are normally many birds in our backyard but not since I put up these balloons. Over the past 2 weeks we have had only 2 minor instances of bird droppings on our furniture rather than the entire table being covered. Now, the only thing left to evaluate is effectiveness over a long period of time. UPDATE: It's now been 6 weeks since I put 2 of these in my trees above my patio. Still working very well! Only 1-2 spots of droppings per week at the most and some weeks it has stayed dropping free. Also seems to deter squirrels as we have noticed much less activity and spots where they dig. Our problem birds included Black Crows/Grackles, Pigeons, Doves, Blue Jays, and Sparrows. They still come around (as we like seeing the birds) but they tend to stay out of the trees directly above our patio. Still a great product!

Bird repellent? No; Cinco de Mayo decoration? Yes!
This review is based on 3 months of use in the direct flight path of Crows, Finches, Finches, Robbins, Sparrows, Starlings, and Woodpeckers. These balloons DID NOT work. Your birds will land on, poop, fly over, and land under these repellents. The birds are still landing in the area under them and landing on the string above them. We still have a constant line of bird poop on the ground directly in the area of the balloon. Local airport told me they tried these Scary Eye balloons and they did not prevent birds from "visiting" the air strip and being killed by aircrafts. The balloons were covered in white powder that gets on everything it touches. Instructions are not very detailed and does not include how to hang the scary ribbons that are included. The instructions also do not say if you are to remove the center of the reflective stickers or just place the entire shiny circle on the balloon. The instructions also include a message from the "Family Company" which makes you feel guilty for wanting to get a refund and taking money from the "Family Company's" mouth for their non-working product. They get 1-star because they looked festive for the Cinco de Mayo holiday and because they are pretty heavy duty. I'm still thinking about trying to get a refund for the wasted $16 and may still pursue it. I will update my review if De-Bird tries to make things right. Don't waste your time or money on this bird repellent balloon.

These balloons combined with golf balls seem to be a winning combination!
Every year we have a mating pair of Mallard ducks take refuge in our pool. They seem to alternate between our pool, our neighbors pool, and the other neighbors pond. I have tried just about everything to get rid of them. Floating alligators - after 1 day they were sitting on their head! Solar powered noise repellents - no affect. Solar powered noise making owl - no affect. Plastic hawks - no affect. etc, etc, etc, I hung a 3 of the balloons around the pool and floated 9 in the pool. I attached a weight to the bottom so the tassels are on top blowing in the wind. I also tethered a few to one spot and let the others float around the pool. It does appear that the ducks do not like the balloons. They will still get in the pool, but spend much more time on land. HOWEVER, THIS IS WHAT DOES SEEM TO WORK! --- GOLF BALLS!!!! A few days ago I started throwing golf balls towards them. They make a big splash and the ducks take off. It's been a few days now and I haven't seen them! I don't even have to leave my porch. The golf balls do not harm my pool liner and they are easy to retrieve. So far - so good. Those pesky ducks are very, very smart and very cute. If they just wouldn't crap all over the concrete around the pool they would have free room and board!

My "test" proved that they work.
((Review revision: after purchasing this product 3 times now. Out of frustration with Iowa’s unforgiving weather and wind as it pertains to the lacking shore strength, elasomeric quality and build design of the string attach points: I conclude that I might as well buy a Tether Ball and paint it to emulate this design. Using aluminum foil for the pupil of the eyes. Note to manufacturer: I would pay more money for a more robust product. )) I have a story to tell. I had some pesky barn swallows that refused to leave my big shed. Compressed air, broom handles, throwing soft things at them, nothing worked. I climbed up on a ladder to get at them. They just would not fly back out through the big overhead door opening. Until. I hung up one of these yellow balloons. They were GONE before I got off the ladder. I didn't even see them leave. I think I fussed with them for half an hour before that. These balloons work! No more nests in our pool shelter either. I bought more for our front porch nesting battles. I don't know if they work 100%. But I will take the 90 or 80% efficy. 4 instead of 5 stars because the attach points won't hold up to high winds. (I suppose I can try to reinforce them with gorilla tape.) Additional info: I bought more because storms and wind ripped out the attach points. I would pay more for the product if it was engineered better. I will search for a competitor. Update after using for 2 seasons: I have found that birds will become used to them. Moving the balloon right next to a nest build in progress did the trick - twice. However, rhe battle goes on.

Best defense for berries
Very effective product - I bought these to keep robins from eating raspberries and boysenberries. Last year, the robins ate at least 75% of my raspberries. Nary a raspberry or boysenberry was touched by any bird this year. I hung the balloons a few weeks before fruit ripened and moved the location at least once a week. I hung them at least at a level with the fruit, and higher where possible. I also used owl and hawk statues, and CDs, but I've used these before with limited success. I lost one balloon on a windy day and replaced the thin white hanging cord with some more durable cord on the other two because I think the white cord wore through on the hanger I use. I thought the order was for one balloon and was surprised to find it was for three - a single balloon is worth the price charged for three!

Poor Quality Control
Good idea. Poor quality control. About 1/3 have issues. some won't hold air, some have glued plastic attachment rings for the sting that simpy fall off. Some hold up pretty well.

The scary balloons REALLY DO WORK!
We purchased our first balloons about 2-3 years ago and put 2 in our back yard. We live in a neighborhood in Western Washington that has a lot of very tall trees. The crows have been our treetop neighbors for about 15 years and can get very boisterous at times, especially when they have have a big meeting or party and invite every crow withing 100 miles. I noticed that the neighbors behind us had one of the balloons in their yard and then I realized that we weren't hearing or seeing as many crows in our neighborhood. I found your website and ordered some and placed 2 on sticks in our back yard and almost immediately ALL OF THE CROWS WERE GONE and have not returned. We had a big wind storm a while back and our balloons got blown into the neighbor's yard and their two big dogs thought we had given them toys, so they enjoyed tossing and biting them. Needless to day, they did not weather that storm very well and we had to place another order. We have passed the word on to our friends and family about how effective they are. I will say, though, Ravens are rather aristocratic and they just prance right thru our yard and pay no attention to the balloons. However, they are much quieter more polite than their cousins, the Crows.
