My jar came without a seal protection. Is that how it's supposed to be?

Yes, no seal! I've been buying this for years and it has never had a seal but it works excellent out of all the ones I've tried!

What is the shelf life after opening?

I don’t see anything on the jar about that but I bought it a year ago and we are still using it with good results. I hope that is helpful.
