My not-so-keen-on-reading-9-year-old has become an avid reader of the can't-come-now-Mum-because-I-can't-put-my-book-down variety thanks to these books. She's whizzed through this set, the Ramona books and is almost finished the Ralph Mouse series as well. Lovely innocent stories that I remember from my childhood about a boy and his dog and his friends. American but accessible to anyone. Cleary writes from a child-eye perspective that captures the imaginations of her young readers. They're reading about small people who think about and worry about things in the same way they do. Nothing dubious or risqué or unpleasant -- just nice stories about nice people living quite ordinary lives -- and all the more captivating for that.

Nuestra hija de 8 años se ha leído primero los libros de Ramona y después pidió en seguida estos para su cumpleaños. La hemos oído riéndose en voz alta mientras los lee, así que parece que esta segunda serie no defrauda, y el perro Ribsy sigue haciendo de las suyas.
