The Finishing Touch for Truly Razor-Sharp Edges
After the sharpening stones are put away, stropping is where a good edge becomes an exceptional one, and this double-sided leather paddle strop has earned a permanent place in my sharpening setup. I use it after every sharpening session to remove any remaining burrs or microscopic metal threads, and it does exactly what a strop should - refining the edge to a clean, wickedly sharp finish with excellent push-cutting performance. The ergonomic paddle design is comfortable to hold and easy to control, making consistent stropping passes simple even during longer sessions. While I would personally prefer slightly thicker leather—something in the 5 - 6 oz range instead of the 3 - 4 oz used here—the leather quality is still very good and performs well with compound. One detail I really appreciate is the black leather, which hides metal staining far better than traditional tan or brown strops and keeps the tool looking cleaner over time. For anyone serious about knife sharpening, this strop is a valuable and effective finishing tool. It may be the final step in the process, but it’s often the most important one. Solid performance, thoughtful design, and an easy recommendation.

Very nice way to put a finishing touch on sharpened knives
I’m not a fanatic about sharpening knives, but I do like to keep my kitchen knives sharp. I’ve never had a strop before and I wasn’t sure that it would actually do much of anything. However, I just got a new knife sharpener that works very well, and the makers of it said that a strop was a very good way to add a finishing touch when sharpening a knife. Turns out that they’re right — and this is a very good strop! It’s well-made, and the handle and size are such that it is very easy to hold. There’s a rougher strip of leather on one side of the paddle, and a finer strip on the other. Both strips are quite thick and fastened tightly to the paddle. After sharpening my knives, I was able to quickly strop about 5-10 times in both directions on each side of the paddle, and it quickly added a nice finish. Given the price, this is a great value. I’m very glad I got this. If you want to put the finishing touch on your knives, I think you will be glad, too.

Well made strop, that will not break the bank.
What can I say, I was looking to buy a more expensive strop at another site, and I am glad I didn't. This strop is a GREAT VALUE and it works perfectly for my needs, I usually give my knives one quick pass over a 1000 grit sharpening stone, run the blade softly over a used wine/whisky bottle cork cap to get rid of the burr created by the sharpening stone, and then run them over this paddle strop. This process gives my blades a nice polished finish (YMMV). The strop feels sturdy and the leather is glued perfectly to the wood, I really like the size, it accommodates most knives, from small folders and paring knives to large Japanese and Chef Knives. I find myself mostly using the smooth side without the polishing compound, I would say 60% of the time I use the smooth leather side without compound and 40% the obverse side (felt) with compound depending on the knife and type of steel. Make sure if you use the compound not to spread too much, or you will keep picking it up with your blades, a quick wipe (careful DO NOT CUT yourself) with a microfiber towel will fix that though. Also it helps if you leave the compound out in the sun a few minutes to soften it up a bit before applying the first time or re-applying it. I believe the compound included is .5 microns and is more than enough if you decide to use it, there are many more compounds out there if you decide the included compound is not fine enough for your needs, but I believe it is sufficient for most knives. Short version: BUY IT!, it is an excellent strop for most knives and a GREAT value for what you get for the price.

Simple and effective no-nonsense design!
I sharpen my knives monthly as a chef, and it only made sense to have a strop to cycle to the upkeep kit. I've used other strops before but were all short-lived and weren't durable at all for prolonged use, but Hutsuls leather strop is made of amazing quality and well-constructed. The paddle is long enough to rest on top of any work surface or handheld at various angles for different lengths of blades - a huge bonus also is that the strop comes with a good-sized polishing compound for the polishing side. I quite enjoy this strop and will definitely buy again from Hutsuls. A great value for the price, very simple yet effective no-nonsense design, and an American business. I recommend this product for anyone serious about blade care and maintenance.

Nice strop!
The Hutsuls Leather Strop is top-notch quality. The leather is smooth, thick, and perfectly firm for getting a razor-sharp edge. It feels well-made, lays flat, and works great on knives and tools. Impressive craftsmanship and performance—definitely recommend it.

Thin and hard leather, which is critical for a crisp edge. Since I'm planning to use the strop with diamond emulsions only, I peel the suede side off and glued it suede side to the wood. Now I have two smooth leather sides, which work well with diamond emulsions. The wood they use is of good quality too, the attention to detail is very good, straight grain across the whole strop, they even use some putty to fill the imperfections on the handle.

So, I'm kinda new to using serious sharpeners and strops...use to just use the kitchen steel for the most part. Decided to try this in combination with a sharpening system....glad I added this Strop to the kit. It's made well and comes with the green stopping compound. Simple to use and very effective. It nicely finishes off a blade where the sharpening system leaves off. I had one blade that was already sharp but decided to give it a few passes on the Hutsul (both side) and it made it razor hair shaving sharp again. Great product and fast delivery. Would highly recommend.

Works as i figured a strop is supposed to. Comes with both the rough and smooth side of leather and green grit compound. i put the compound on the rough side so that i could leave the smooth side as smooth as possible. I used it to restore 2-3 of my decently sharp knives to razor sharp in only a few minutes, super easy to use and has a good feel to it. the green compound leaves a slight shiny mirror like finish on the edge of the blade of my knives, which im fond of as it makes the blade look clean and smooth. the wood is solid and the leather seems quality, nice and tough, not flimsy or easily tearable. plan on using it for my daily kitchen knife maintenance so that i can spend less time using my whetstones and prolong the life of my knives. good product, cant really go wrong with the purchase if you're looking for a good strop for general use
