The first of 1997's volcano disaster movies (the second being Volcano ) was arguably the better of the two, but both of them made for passable entertainment with some spectacular special effects to serve as icing on the stale cake. After all, Dante's Peak doesn't pretend to be anything more than an updated variation on a whole catalog of disaster movie clichés. Despite all that, it's reasonably enjoyable. It's an added bonus that the script is just smart enough to allow Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton to play their roles with straight faces, never condescending to the audience of the formulaic story. He's a volcano expert from the U.S. Geological Survey, and she's the mayor of a cozy Washington State town perched beneath a volcano that's about to blow. Telltale signs are everywhere, so evacuation must be carried out immediately. Of course, not everybody's eager to leave, and even some of Brosnan's colleagues think his alarm is premature. This sets the stage for massive ash clouds, rivers of raging mud and molten rock, flattened forests, and death-defying escapes by Brosnan, Hamilton, and some (but not all) of her family, friends, and townsfolk. So what if it's all pretty flaky... and can a four-wheel-drive vehicle travel over fire and molten lava without bursting its tires? Don't ask too many questions, and you'll find Dante's Peak to be (if you'll pardon the pun) a total blast. Pierce and Sarah
Good ol' Pierce Brosnan is at it again in this volcanic adventure. Picture this, small mountain town tucked away at the base of an "inactive" volcano, a small town mayor that is not Sarah Connor, a snarky ex-mother-in-law that thinks she knows everything, two children that put their brains on hold and a boss that doesn't trust his lead employee's instincts. What could go wrong you ask. Just a minor hiccup when the volcano decides to give the town, the residents and the USGS team sent to "check it out" a wake up call. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Well acted. Great photography and special effects and quite well directed. While it's not necessarily a nail biter, it is a good way to spend a couple of hours. P.S. Despite it all, there is a happy ending (be still my elated heart.)

Kino Lorbor provides the updated Dolby Atmos sound format.
This KL 4K disc carries a Dolby Atmos sound track CONTRARY to the Amazon disc specs. There have been a bunch of premature video reviews criticizing KL for not having that sound format. But it does and it also carries an Isolated film Score! For those soundtrack enthusiasts. An outstanding release with a beautiful film transfer. Way to go KL.

Good quality disaster movie
Compared to a lot of disaster movies of the day, this one is really well-made. Obviously the graphics don’t compare to a 2025 blockbuster, but it’s fun and compelling and has a pretty good plot all things considered. I will say, it’s probably not for young kids - there are a couple of gruesome scenes that disturbed me when I was younger. But this is a nice fun movie.

Dante's Inferno brought to Life
Excellent story about how a volcano in the Pacific Norwest could come to life again after centuries. Mt St. Helen being a grim example which inspired this movie

Really good movie
When I was a kid I was right into disaster films and such, and this one of the movies I liked to watch growing up till volcano came out, there was a mount Saint Helens movie out there, but I can't seem to find it anywhere

Eine Ur-Gewalt von Film, eine großartige Blu Ray
Ich habe gerade die BR von "Dantes Peak" bekommen und gleich angesehen. Ein fabelhafter Film, eine richtige "Ur-Gewalt" von Film. Zur Story: Der Vulkanologe Harry Dalton ("James Bond"- Pierce Brosnan) fährt in die Kleinstadt "Dantes Peak", um ungewöhnliche seismografische Aktivitäten zu untersuchen. Obwohl die Kleinstadt am Fuße eines Vulkans liegt und es durch die enorme Hitze im Boden und im Wasser schon zu zwei Todesfällen gekommen ist, tut man seine Warnungen und sein Ansuchen um Alarmbereitschaft in der Stadt als Belanglosigkeit ab. Bis man eines Besseren belehrt wird. Der Vulkan bricht aus und gibt die Hölle in Form von Lava frei. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt beginnt für die Einwohner von "Dantes Peak" und auch für Harry und sein Team der Kampf ums nackte Überleben. Dramatische Szenen wie die Massenflucht aus der Stadt, gigantische Schlammmassen, die ganze Waldstücke mit sich reissen und schließlich die glühende Lava, die sich erbarmungslos ihren Weg durch das Szenario bahnt, machen diesen Film zu einem visuellen Ereignis! Wie sieht es jetzt mit der Bildqualität der Blu Ray aus? Eines vorweg: Die Bildqualität ist um Längen besser als die der DVD. Um das etwas genauer zu beschreiben: . Man hat während der gesamten Laufzeit des Filmes den Eindruck, als ob man ihn frisch im Kino sehen würde, denn es wird ein ständig präsentes natürliches Bild geboten. Einfach toll. Die Farbgebung ist den ganzen Film hindurch sehr schön und prächtig. Filmkorn und Filmrauschen ist zwar vorhanden, jedoch sehr wenig und stört kaum das Sehvergnügen, selbst in dunklen Szenen nicht. Gesichter der Schauspieler werden sehr scharf und natürlich wiedergegeben und wirken niemals künstlich. Auch andere Konturen (Kleidungsstücke, Autos, Gebäude etc.) werden sehr klar und deutlich gezeigt. Panoramaansichten des Vulkans und der Bergketten (Stichwort: Rundflug mit dem Hubschrauber) und ihren Konturen werden verständlicherweise etwas weicher und unscharf gezeigt, aber das dürfte völlig normal sein. Den Film in dieser Qualität zu sehen ist ein wahre Freude!! Eine klare Kaufempfehlung!!

火山が爆発し、迫り来るシーンはハラハラドキドキです。 と同時に夫に逃げられた二人の子供を持つ母親が たまたまやってきた火山研究者（ブロスナン）に 恋を抱き、お互いがひかれあうところはなかなか キュンと来ます。 私は英語で観ましたが、スラングもなくどちらかというと わかりやすい英語だと思いました。 ブロスナンの声にうっとり～♪
