It depends what size you get. If you get the larger sizes there is no handle to carry it on top.

can it be used for ferrets

I'm sure the smallest one could be used for ferrets -- but there might be better ones. I think ferrets can make themselves skinny and small and escape from places that seem impossible to escape from. I'd look around for something that has smaller holes, or is maybe made of mesh. (BTW: In my state it's illegal to own ferrets.)

How do you use the seat belt loop to secure the crate in your car

For 24" kennels and below, there is a seatbelt slot located right next to the top handle. Just thread the shoulder portion of the seatbelt through it. For 28" and larger, there are tiedowns at the bottom of the kennel that require a rope to be run through it and then secured. That is typically more for truckbed or back of SUV use.

Does the 24in come with screws?

Yes, plastic tabs with metal screw fastners. Tip from someone who has ran a kennel since 1990, zip ties work just as well, especially if you lose the fastners.

lightweight and durable

I bought these before and they improved the screw nuts so it is easier to turn the nut on the screw. This has thinner plastic than the ones I bought years ago and the holes on the sides are larger and ovular. The screw nuts were an improvement and I like the overall design but the ones I bought before I felt were more durable with thicker plastic and thinner slits so my cats couldn't stick their paws out.
