Our family has been using this balm for many years when skiing (and for other outdoor activities like ice fishing), and it never disappoints in providing protection from cold and wind, even in severe conditions. We use it all over the face (especially on the cheeks and nose) as well as the earlobes to prevent chapping and frostbite. It goes on a bit greasy (we call it "gooping up"), but it mostly absorbs into the skin fairly quickly, leaving an excellent protective layer that lasts for hours on the slopes. It never leaves any greasy residue on our hats, goggles, gaitors, etc. The container is small but a little goes a long, long way. We think it is well worth the price. Highly recommended!

In my opinion Dermatone is THE BEST lip balm and good for the nose also. It's long lasting in harsh conditions and keeps lips well moisturized.

Purchased for a trip in winter to Germany to keep cheeks and lips from windburn/chap and this is little more than an unmedicated carmex ointment. It has the same petroleum scent and feel. It worked. Served its purpose, but I don't feel like it was any better than vaseline or other similar item would hvae been at half the cost. WE keep it on the nightstand now and will use it until it is gone, but won't buy it again.

Feb 15, 2016: I used this yesterday during a visit to New York City. I've lived in New Jersey for about five years (except for a 6-month gap, I've been living here since 2010); and it was the coldest day I've ever seen. Temperatures in the morning hovered around 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Fahrenheit with wind-chill). I spent over two hours outside; and except for the sting getting through when the wind gusted, I had no problems. Although it leaves a bit of a shine on my face, I consider that a really minor point. This stuff really does work to protect against windburn and frostbite. As far as I'm concerned, it's tried and true. Still highly recommended. Original post: This Dermatone skin protector is great. I tried it out yesterday playing some recreational outdoor sand volleyball at Central Park. It was in the high 30s/low 40s Fahrenheit with occasional gusts of cold wind. This stuff blocked it all out; and I didn't feel any sting from the wind. When I first received it, the tin was smaller than I expected, but I only needed a dab to cover my face (I'm male and have a medium to maybe slightly large head). By the way, it feels like really soft wax and is easy to apply. This stuff beats carrying around a scarf to shield my face; and it even has some sun-protection built in, which is nice (I'm Filipino-American, but I've had mild sunburn in the past). Highly recommended.

This is the BEST thing to use on cold hikes to protect you from the wind. Also helps with the sun, but it excels with protecting your skin from cold and wind. The best around.
